Taking one last look at the hotel, Lucy sighed and thought about the previous day. She wished she could stay there until the apocalypse ended but she knew it could never stay safe.
Just as she was about to head to the jeep, with a few supplies in hand, she noticed Brad also looking at it.
"Well ... It's been fun" he said, giving her a small smile, "let's go"
She smiled back at him and they made their way to the jeep.
Brad sat in the driver's seat and Helena sat in the passenger's seat. Dave and Ruby sat behind them and behind them was Tyler.
On every other day, she sat with Dave and Ruby, because she was a little intimidated by Tyler, but now that they started to talk, she thought of sitting with him.
"You coming?" Dave asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.
"Yeah" she climbed up and was about to sit with Ruby but Ruby placed the pack of bottle water, that was on her laps, on her seat.
"Sorry, there was no space in the trunk, but you can sit at the back with Tyler" she said, secretly giving her a wink.
Lucy flushed on realization.
"Oh, okay" she turned and moved to the back, sitting next to Tyler.
"Now, let's get this show on the road" Brad said and drove off just after Ruby rolled the door shut.
They sat there awkwardly, avoiding eye contact and looking out through the window.
"Y'all" Ruby said, breaking the silence, " today's Wednesday morning, what would you have been doing before the apocalypse?, I would be in the spa"
"Same" Helena said
"Getting a lecture from my wife about putting an empty carton of milk back in the fridge"
"You were married?" Dave asked
"Believe it or not " he said, sighing " man, she was a tough one"
"I would be retiring from my night shift"
"I would be sleeping in class" said Lucy
Everyone except Brad turned to Tyler who raised an eyebrow.
"What?"
"What about you?" Ruby asked
"I'm not doing that" Lucy turned away, scoffing.
She looked out the window and saw some zombies limping away.
"Zombies" she murmured to herself. She focused on them and saw a zombie in front, running. She didn't realize it wasn't a zombie until it looked back as if to check if the other zombies had caught up to it.
At that moment, she saw the frightened face of a girl, Lucy's eyes being deceived by her torn up clothes.
"Wait!, there's a girl out there!"
"Not again" Tyler said, closing his eyes.
Brad stopped the car and they all went out, leaving him. They ran towards the zombies, guns in hand and knives in back pockets.
Dave shot at the sky, attracting the zombies and they began killing them.
After a moment of blood, spit, bullets, shrieks and moans, all the zombies were dead and Lucy walked towards the girl, who had curled herself into a ball, staring at them in fear.
