Ch. 5

Amy looked at Tails, with meaningful look in her eyes. Tails met the emerald eyes, not quite understanding her intentions.

"Tails, you better choose soon," Eggman reminded him.

Panicking, Tails began to tremble. He'd forgotten that he had to choose instantly. He considered shocking himself, but the idea of stabbing Knuckles seemed far more reasonable at this rate. Still, Tails had not forgiven himself for getting himself into this mess.

"Shock me." Tails announced bluntly.

Knuckles whipped his head around, clutching his stomach after doing so.

"No," he began, coughing inbetween, receiving concerned looks from his friends.

Tails, you've got to listen to me, that's going to-"

But Tails had made is mind up. The light blinded Knuckles.

Tails' blood curdling screams echoed through the room, along with others crying out after it began to drag on longer than Amy's.

"NO!" EGGMAN STOP, PLEASE!" Sonic's pleading voice cried from behind.

"TAILS!" Amy screamed

No no no no... Knuckles mind began to jitter its thoughts.

"TAILS, COM'ON BUDDY!" Sonic's voice said. Much louder than the others.

The light suddenly dissolved .

"TAILS!" Knuckles yelled out, coughing again. He went as far as his chains would allow to Tails. The twin tailed fox lay motionless, as the smoke cleared.

Amy gasped, her eyes glued to Tails. Rouges eyes went wide as she began to stare at the damage. "No.." she whispered.

The restraints unlocked, Eggman's monitor screen projection fading as he let out a confused cry, no one bothering to notice during this crisis.

Knuckles felt the burning hot tears begin to well in his eyes. The last time he'd cried was for... "Tails?!" He said, nudging his foot slightly.

Sonic began to run over. "Knuckles, can you feel his pulse?" Sonic asked panicked. Everyone quickly circled around the fox. Knuckles moved closer, removing one of his gloves, searching for any sign of life. He placed the fox's head in his lap. He was the only one that dared to touch the fox's body. The damage was similar to Amy's, but darker, more faded and worse.

"Shit..!" Knuckles, said under his breath.

Amy covered her eyes with her hands and began to cry. "Don't say it, Knuckles!" She begged.

"Is he really-" Rouge began.

"No! Tell me he's ok!" Sonic interrupted, stomping over to Knuckles, grabbing him by the shoulders. "TELL ME!" He yelled.

Knuckles fumbled with Tails' hand. "Sonic, I-"

"He's dead, Sonic." Shadow said, looking down, and unfolding his arms.

Everyone looked up at Shadow. "I-i, I can already tell." He stuttered, looking ashamed. Sonic was really struggling to maintain sanity, it was obvious as he calmly let go of Knuckles, and backed away. Shadow calmly walked over, and gave Sonic a pat on the back. "Look, I know it might be scary, but you'll have us, Sonic. It's ok." Shadow said softly. Sonic looked up, and hugged Shadow catching him off guard, as Shadow awkwardly hugged back the blue hedgehog.

Knuckles didn't care what anyone else thought. He just knew Tails didn't deserve this. Anger and sorrow took turns taking over. Eggman was going to pay, he would make sure of that.
