Her lungs begged her to take a breath. Giving in, she let out a loud gasp for any air.

Her mouth was not met with water. Air flooded through her lungs, relief swung over her. The water had drained!

"Thank the heavens..." she thought thankfully.

The glass door swung open as the last of the water slipped back through the vents. Amy rushed out, not needing to be told to sit back in her spot.

Everyone was giving supportive smiles. Even Shadow, which was a little odd.

Everyone except Knuckles, who looked more nervous than happy.

The restraints relocked themselves back on.

Shadow watched the conveyer belt shift to Knuckles once more.

This game...so messed up...and wrong.. he thought, sickening thoughts of Space Colony Ark playing through.

"The card." Knuckles said.

Maybe the cards were the better way out.

Knuckles drew the top card, reading. He turned white.

"So, what does it say Knuckles??" Eggman asked.

Knuckles looked up. "Tying firework explosives to each of my hands.."

"Oooh goody!! A heart monitor and stuff will collect data as their lit!" Eggman said, excited for this experiment. "Step inside the glass chamber so you don't harm your friends. Just in case."

Knuckles felt little pads softly attach to his back. Two decent sized firework explosives fell from a chute from above. Picking them up, Knuckles inspected them. He had little experience with these types of things.

"Just to make sure you don't drop them," Eggman said, a soft stretchy rope descended, a mechanical arm tightly wrapping his hands, securing the fireworks.

Knuckles looked at his friends, through glass.

"Any, ahem, last maybe, death wishes just incase?" Eggman asked Knuckles.

"I...i'm sorry if i let you guys down. You're all really my whole world.." He looked away, unable to finish, making a gesture to Eggman's hologram that he may begin.

"3,"

"2,"

"1."

He glanced up at the small fire as it gently tapped the strings to the fireworks.

The chamber went pale orange, to luminous burning reds and blues. A true masterpiece of colors. If you could ignore the fact that Knuckles was inside, screaming his head off.

She tried to move. The restraints would let her go as far as the conveyor belt. She felt herself scream his name in fear.

Then she saw him. Face, appearing to have had withered, and arms, twitching uncontrollably, bits of hands. Blood and embers everywhere. His amethyst eyes gazed back into her teal ones.

She refused to cry though.

Smoke began to gather, quickly leaving as the air vents opened though. Knuckles sank to his knees, gasping. But there were no hands to lean on.

Everyone seemed paralyzed.

"I-" Knuckles said, breaking the silence in a hoarse voice, looking into the ground.

"Never..." he coughed, blood pooling at his knees from his arms, and mouth.

"Will forget." He said.

"Knuckles...?!" Rouge croaked out.

Knuckles paused, and lifted his head up, taking one last look at his friends through the unforgiving glass. Shaking, he turned Rouge's direction again, weakly smiling.

"I love you." He whispered to her, as more blood sputtered out of his mouth as he choked out his last words.

She smiled for a spilt second, before whispering, "I do too."

Everyone was silent as Knuckles collapsed onto the floor. Gone.
