They sat in an agonizingly long silence, as Eggman recorded his "data". Eggman was the one to break the silence.

"I'm going to explain the next one. It's more of a game, but I suppose it counts as a 'would you rather'. You will be placed in a long arena, with physical challenges along the way. You have to be speedy to get though to the endpoint." He paused, and looked at the two to make sure they were listening.

"Once you reach the end, you'll find the chaos emerald. You can take it, and use it to warp far away from here."

Rouge and Shadow exchanged confused looks.

"Then how is it would you rather?" Shadow asked.

"I didn't finish explaining!" He snapped.

"Here's the catch, you can either choose to help your friend to the end or let them die. Only one can prevail. You see, the arena will slowly fill with a poisonous gas, and therefore you must be fast. Once you reach the end, you have a limited time to choose who will take the Chaos Emerald."

"So we have to complete an obstacle course as it fills with poisonous gas, and at the end decide who to sacrifice?" Rouge said, confused.

"Yeah, you got it. You could also choose in advance who should live, or wait last second. If you both however choose to grab it, one of you will be killed at random. Only one life form will leave the arena alive, since I put a special force field around it." He said, beaming.

"If Rouge and I were to both attempt to grab the emerald, it would be a random death?" Shadow questioned.

"I think so..." Rouge said, frowning.

Eggman only smiled wider. "If that's what you think." He said.

He reached out to the side of the hologram and reached for a lever. It undid their restraints, and opened a chute below the two mobians. They were sent falling into their inevitable doom.

Rouge felt herself go spiraling down the chute. It was more like a slide. She suddenly slammed into the ground, as she heard another thud and a groan of pain. Shadow laid beside her in a new glass chamber. She bent down.

"You ok?" She questioned, offering her hand.

"Yeah, nothing I can't handle." He said, taking her hand as he sat up, rubbing his head.

Rouge inspected their surroundings. It was a rather narrow arena, with lush green grass, a big beautiful blue sky–

It was an illusion. Green hill. Rouge felt sick to her stomach. Eggman was going to make them die in their homeland, well sort of.

Shadow had noticed too. He stood stiffly, staring through the glass.

"Count down, beginning!" Eggman's voice boomed.

Rouge and Shadow exchanged nervous looks again.

"Together?" He asked, almost in a whisper.

"Together." She said, squeezing his hand in hers.

"3,"

(Fyi I don't ship Shadow and Rouge, i make them have a sister/brother relationship, sorry for maybe confusion lmao)

"2,1!" Eggman hollered, as the glass walls sank into the ground.

Shadow and Rouge took off, bolting away.
