Chapter Fourteen (why do I make my titles so long?)

Froststar leaped onto the tree where the ShadowClan and RiverClan leaders were already waiting. "Now we just need Breezestar and Barkstar to get here," Marshstar muttered. The ShadowClan leader was starting to get old, Froststar observed. He could just see the first flecks of gray appearing on his muzzle. The Gatherings had seemed boring after the WindClan tom Sedgetail was found out to be an "assassin." How Froststar pulled that off still made him chuckle.

SkyClan appeared, and lastly WindClan. Breezestar hopped up onto her branch, not looking Froststar in the eye. She was still ashamed that one of her warriors tried to murder Froststar, and was generally uneasy around ThunderClan. Because we have every reason to hate her Clan.

"Let the Gathering begin!" Marshstar yowled. "I will report first. Prey is running well, the twolegs have started setting up their temporary nests again, but that hasn't effected our prey," he said, then stepped back. Being the newest leader, he would speak last. Wavestar reported one of her apprentices caught the biggest carpe they'd ever seen, Barkstar announced a warrior Birdfrost had retired to the Elder's den. Breezestar announced that WindClan had a new warrior, Slightfoot, and Cloudpaw the medicine cat apprentice earned his full name of Cloudfrost. So that's why the medicine cats look so happy.

Froststar stepped forward, dramatically clearing this throat. "ThunderClan is thriving, yet we still miss Splashstar," he said, hardly able to keep a straight face. He wanted to burst out laughing at that. A few cats let out sympathetic murmurs. "We have two new warriors, Pebbleleap and Pigeonwing." He waited for the cheers to die down. "And, my beautiful mate Mistfeather has given the Clan four healthy kits. Tigerkit, Darkkit, Sprucekit, and Dawnkit," he said proudly. Cats cheered, and the leaders murmured congratulations. Except for Marshstar.

"New life in your Clan, yes, but will your territory support it?" he asked, loud enough for the cats down below to hear.

"Absolutely," Froststar said. "See how well-fed my warriors are? ThunderClan is not concerned," he said. Even Marshstar had to admit that ThunderClan looked well-fed, after all it was the middle of New-leaf. He narrowed his eyes at Marshstar, digging his sharp claws into the tree bark. "But if we ever thought we needed more territory, we would get some." Marshstar's fur bristled at the threat, but the cats down below were already breaking up and re-grouping with their clan mates. Throwing a sneer in Marshstar's direction, Froststar leaped down from the tree and trotted over to his clan mates.

"Nice job standing up to ShadowClan!" Thrushfeather said.

"If Marshstar thinks he can talk down to us, he's wrong," Larktalon growled. His mate Firelily nodded in agreement. It was her first Gathering since kitting their daughter, Amberpaw. Froststar gave a curt nod.

"We're ThunderClan. We don't let anyone talk down to us," he growled. Watch out, Marshstar. If I plan to attack, ShadowClan will be my first target.
