Chapter 6

"Y/n!" You look up from your laptop where you were on Skype with Peter to see Sam in front of you.

"What's up Sam?"

"We've got an emergency."

"Pete, I'll talk to you later." You say not looking at the screen.

"Okay. Talk to you la..." He doesn't finish the sentence because you close your computer and follow Sam out.

"Steve." Sam says as you reach the lobby of a different hotel where Steve walked Sharon. "There's something you gotta see."

"A bomb hidden in a news van ripped through the UN building in Vienna. More than 70 people have been injured. At least 12 are dead, including Wakanda's King T'Chaka. Officials have released a video of a suspect who they have identifies as James Buchanan Barnes, the winter soldier. The Infamous HYDRA agent linked to numerous acts of terrorism and political assassinations."

You, Steve, and Sam sit and watch the news report. Until Sharon comes up. "I have to go to work."

Steve and you stand out in the streets, hats and sunglasses on to disguise yourselves. Steve stands on his phone waiting for Nat to answer.

"Hello?"

"You alright?"

"Uh, yea, thanks. I got lucky." She freezes and looks around before speaking. "I know how much Barnes means to you. I really do. Stay home. You'll only make this worse. For all of us. Please." Nat begs.

"Are you saying you'll arrest me?" Steve asks, and you look at him questionably.

"No. Someone will. If you interfere. That's how it works now."

"If he's this far gone, Nat, I should be the one to bring him in." Steve looks over to where Nat stands, and you follow his gaze seeing Nat looking your way, but not seeing you.

"Why?"

"Because I'm the one least likely to die trying." He ends the call.

You and Steve walk into the restaurant and sit at the counter next to Sam.

"She tell you to stay out of it?" Steve stands silent and Sam continues speaking. "Might have a point."

"He'd do it for me." Steve says, ordering a drink for you and him.

"1945, maybe. Steve, he just wants to make sure that all options are considered." You jump in.

"The people that shoot at you usually wind up shooting at us." Sam continues.

"Tips have been pouring in since the footage went public. Everybody thinks the Winter Soldier goes to their gym. Most of its noise, except for this." Sharon says sliding a file towards you and Steve. "My boss expects a briefing pretty much now so that's all the head start you're gonna get."

"Thank you." You say.

"You're gonna have to hurry. We have orders to shoot on sight." She leaves the three avengers in the restaurant.

Steve walks around a shabby looking home, you not far behind. "I don't see anything."

Steve shushes you. And walks farther in. You both were in your suits, ready for a fight if need be. Steve gabs a book from the top of the fridge and open it. You look on the other side of the room.

"Heads up guys. German Special Forces, approaching from the south." Sam voice comes through the comms unit.

"Understood." Steve says, he suddenly hears a gasp come from you. He turns around to see Bucky standing near the entrance of the room. "Do you know me?"

"You're Steve. I read about you in a museum."

"They've set up a perimeter."

"We got it Sam." You harshly say into the comm.

"You're y/n. Tony Stark's daughter."

"I know you're nervous and you have plenty of reason to be. But you're lying." Steve says.

"Steve." You hiss at him.

"I wasn't in Vienna. I don't do that anymore." Bucky says.

"They're entering the building." Steve looks to you.

"Well, the people who think you were there, that you did plant that bomb, are coming here right now. And they're not planning on taking you alive." You tell him.

"That's smart. Good strategy."

Footsteps are heard as Sam speaks. "They're on the roof. I'm compromised."

"This doesn't have to end in a fight, Buck."

"It always ends in a fight."

"Five seconds." Sam's voice comes through the comms.

"You pulled me from the river. Why?" Steve asks.

"I don't know." Bucky says, pulling the glove off his metal hand.

"Three seconds." Sam warns.

"Yes, you do."

All three stand silent when suddenly you hear, "Breach, breach, beach." You duck and Steve hits the bomb with his shield. Another comes in through the window near Buck and he kicks it near Steve, who slams his shield on top of it.

German men try to bust in the door and two come in through the windows. Buck starts to fight one and you fight the other with Steve. Bucky takes out one and moves to the one you and Steve are fighting. Buck shoves him out the back door, Steve grabs his arm. "Buck stop you're gonna kill someone."

Bucky slams Steve into the ground, then gabbing your ankle to pull you down but you vibrate fast enough that his hand goes right through you. He gives up on trying to take you down and punched the ground near Steve's head. "I'm not gonna kill anyone." He pulls a bag from the ground and throws it to a nearby rooftop. More men make their way into the building you, Steve, and Buck fight off each one.

Once each man inside is taken down Steve moves to you. "Get out of here. I'll handle Buck."

"No. We start this together and we will end this together." You protest.

"No, I said go. That's an order."

"Be careful Steve. " You say, knowing you'll never win this fight.

"I will. Now go." With that you left. You sped out the building, farther out of the country, and across the Atlantic Ocean and into New York. You ran through the streets, to the Avengers Tower, and into your room where you sat, waiting for the cue that Steve was okay.
