"You! What are you doing awake at this time of the hour?! Go to bed! The guard's rough voice shook Ivan out of his trance.
He looked at one of the guards and sighed when he recognized him. Dimitri Vasilovich a blonde buff guy who likes to verbally abuse the prisoners.
Ivan didn't reply. He sighed and closed his eyes and opened them again when the guards left. Ivan was watching the stars. He was transfixed by this one star which shined brighter than others. It seemed to be getting closer and closer to him.
As if that star was going to change him forever. As if something so wonderful and worth love was coming for him.
Ivan's blue eyes opened in wonder as he looked at that star. So beautiful. He doesn't have a cellmate. So he has lot of time to think.
He would become a better human being if he was out of this hellhole. He would appreciate every simple thing. He would savour every bite of the delicious pie his mother makes.
Ivan didn't want the night to end . He loved the night sky. He loved the mysterious beauty it held. It was so cold and silent. He liked it. He wondered if he could ever find something so beautiful as the moon on earth.
Who else could reflect so much light and beauty?
No human or animal could hold the beauty and mystery of night sky. Ivan wanted to disappear into the abyss. He wanted to scream 'I'm significant!' But he was just a grain of sand. The universe laughs at the arrogance and ego of man who thinks of himself greater and more intelligent than anything else.
And when we die we become insignificant. The universe will still be there but we won't.
