Paris Mitchell's POV.
My phone rang and I silently cursed. Who would call early in the morning on a Saturday? I picked up my phone and answered it, not even bothering to see the caller ID.
"What is it?" I hissed.
"Hello, Paris?" my best friend, Jade Hudson, answered.
"Yeah. What is it?" I asked, still slightly pissed.
"It's about Shane." she said sounding worried. That got my attention.
Shane Martin is my 9th grade crush until now, summer after highschool graduation. All of our friends know, except for him. I've been crushing on him for 3 years now. Dense, I know.
I quickly sat up on my bed. "What's the problem?" I asked.
"Ian said he wants to run away from home." she said and I can visualize her running a hand through her hair. Ian Connor is our other friend, Shane's best friend. With him, we also have Margot Carson and Charlie Evans. The 'couple' in our group.
I sighed in relief. "Jade, he always say that but it never happens. He doesn't have the guts to do it." Shane's family is very rich and his parents always set him up with another rich girl that is beneficial to their business. Because of that, Shane always says that one day he'll run away from all the pressure and stress.
"Yeah but this time, it's different. He's already 18 and independent. He already has the money andthe guts." she explained and my relief was short lived.
"Why? Did Ian stop him? What about Charlie?" I asked going to my closet and quickly pulling out a random sweatshirt and pants.
"They tried but Shane had enough. His parents tried to set him up again with another one of their business partner's daughter. He wants to run away and find his true love." she explained with an apologetic voice.
My heart sunk at the last sentence but tried to be positive. "Uhh. Okay. I'm going to the shower, now."
"I'll pick you up in 10. Get ready." she said hanging up.

"Are you okay?" Margot asked from the back seat. As promised, Jade picked me up after 10 minutes with Margot and a cup of coffee.
"I guess. Look, don't worry about me. Worry about Shane right now." I said running a brush to my still damp hair.
Margot nodded and Jade pursed her lips. Of course she knows I'm not okay.
"We're here." Jade announced and we quickly opened our doors and went inside Shane's gigantic house.
We all knew his place like our own because we've been playing and hanging out here when were kids until now. We quickly went in his room to find him already packing all of his clothes and belongings with Ian and Charlie trying to talk him out of this. When they saw us enter, they sighed in relief.
"Good, you're here. He won't listen to us." Ian said pointing to Shane who was still busy packing.
"Shane." I called out softly. He turned around and smiled. The smile that I fell in love with.
"Hey, Paris." he waved. "Can you help me pack? These guys are useless." he said pointing to Ian and Charlie. He must have seen the look on my face and sighed.
"You're against this too, aren't you?" he said and quickly shook his head. "Guys, I told you. I've made up my mind. I'll be living on my own. I'll be moving somewhere. I saved up lots of money for this. Now, I have more than enough. Just support in this. I know what I'm doing. Who knows? I might find my soulmate there or something." he explained.
Jade looked at me biting her lip while the others are shaking their heads at me or giving me a pitying look.
I smiled at them and said the unexpected. Exhaling I answered. "You know what? You're right." They all looked at me with eyes wide and eyebrows furrowed.
"We're your friends. We've been through a lot. We know each other more than we know ourselves. We should support you. We'll come with you for at least three months or so. We'll just tell our parents that we're going to a vacation until you decide that you can fly solo with your newfound love." I continued, a lump rising in my throat at the last part.
"What?" Margot shrieked looking at me as if I'm crazy.
"Are you sure about this?" Charlie asked and I know the meaning behind it. Are you sure you want to be there when Shane falls in love with another?
The answer is no but I nodded, nonetheless. I looked at Shane and saw his face lighten up. "Really? You'll do that for me?" he asked and I shrugged. Of course I will. I thought.
"Thank you! Thank you so much! You are the best!" he exclaimed hugging me.
I smiled.
Totally worth it.
