Mateo’s POV

“What happened?  Why was she so scared?  What happened to her?” I yell at Miakoda.  I could feel Cici’s terror.  Did Angel show up?  Is he going to hurt her?  I growl in frustration and look at Cici laying in the hospital bed.  I take her hand in mine and feel the tingles.

“I think Angel returned.  Focus, Mateo, what is she feeling now?” Miakoda asks quietly.

I close my eyes and think of Cici.  I can still feel her terror but it’s not as strong as it was.  She seems to be calming down but she’s worried and confused.

“She’s not as scared now but she is worried and confused about something.  We need to fix this.  I don’t know how much longer I can take this.  My wolf is going crazy and it’s taking all of my control to hold him back.  We want Angel dead for doing this to our mate.  I want my wife back.” I end in a whisper and rest my forehead on Cici’s forearm.

“We will fix this, Mateo, I promise.  First things first, we need to find Becky and Roger.  Once we find them, we can put a discrete tail on them so that we will know when they are planning on getting to Cici.  Or we could send out a message to the pack that you plan on leaving the hospital for a meeting, say with Thomas.  They will surely use that opportunity to take her then.” Miakoda says out loud.

“That is a good idea.  I should have thought of that myself.  I am just so worried and frustrated I can’t think straight.  Ok, I will make the arrangements and send out the message.  I am also going to let the boys know what is going on.  I know I can trust the rest of them.  They will be the only ones to know of this until Roger actually takes Cici.  Once he does that, I will banish him from the pack and will be able to inform them all of our plan.  I do not want this leaked so I will handle all of the arrangements.  I do have one favor though.”

“Anything, Alpha.” Miakoda looks expectantly at me.  Her eyes lock with mine and I feel as if this wise old woman could see my every thought.

“Could you give me a few minutes with Cici, alone?  I just need to…” I choke and lower my eyes back to my mate.

“Of course, Mateo.  I will go to the cafeteria and grab some coffee.  Would you like me to bring you anything?  You need to eat something.”

“I’m not hungry but I do need to eat so anything they have will be fine.  Thank you.”

“Very well, I will be back in about half an hour.  Will that be long enough to…will that be long enough?”

“Yes, I think that would be fine.  Thank you.” I watch as Miakoda walks out of the room and quietly closes the door.

I stand to lift Cici into my arms, being careful not to disturb any of the wires connected to the various machines around the head of her bed.  I lay down on the bed, putting Cici on top of me and put my face into her hair.  I inhale slowly and sigh.  I wish she would wake up.  This would be so much easier if we were able to do this together like she wanted.  I will make this up to her but I can’t lose her.  I need to mark her again since we have married in body and spirit I think it will help our bond drastically.  ‘God, please don’t let my baby be mad at me for this.  I am only doing it to protect her.  Maybe some of my Alpha powers will help her wherever she is.’

I slowly move her hair off of her shoulder to reveal my mark and softly layer kisses first around the mark and then rest my lips directly over the mark.

“I love you, Cintia, please don’t be mad at me.  I am only trying to protect you.” I whisper against her mark.  I clamp my teeth to her skin and bite hard enough to break the skin.  The taste of her coppery blood spills onto my tongue and then a jolt of electricity pours from Cici into my body.  I arch my back and clamp my teeth tighter.  When the power surge begins to slow to a dull roar, I unclench my jaw and lick her mark to help heal it.  I close my eyes and rest my chin on her shoulder, sighing contentedly.  That was incredible.
