Chapter 36

“So if I am to understand you correctly, you expect me to not watch at all, right?” I ask politely.

“That is exactly what I am saying, Cintia.  I would like you to wait inside until the fighting is done and someone will be sent to you.” Councilman Rodriguez says with a hint of impatience.

“I don’t understand.  Why would I wait inside?  Why would you even think I would agree to that?” I ask, narrowing my eyes at him.

“It is the councils belief that Alphas fight better if their mates are not present.” he answers.  I almost expect him to say duh at the end.

“No.” I say and turn toward Mateo to see his reaction.  He hasn’t said a word since Councilman Rodriguez suggested that I not watch the fight.  Our eyes lock and he smirks at me.  “Councilman, I-.”

“Please, call me Eugenio.  I hate all the formalities.”

“Eugenio, I do not mean to be rude or disrespectful but I am not going to just wait in the house while Mateo fights to death with that man.  I refuse to just sit by and watch.  I have no doubt Mateo will beat Angel’s ass whether I’m there or not.”

“Mateo, what do you think?” Councilman Eugenio asks Mateo.  The entire time, our eyes are still locked on each other.

‘Are you sure you want to watch this fight?  It won’t be pretty.  There will be injuries no matter what the outcome.’ Mateo mind links to me.

‘I will respect your wishes, Mateo, no matter what you ask.  I just have a feeling that I should be there.’

“I chose to have Cici there with me.  I do, however, want Joel and Blake to be by her side at all times, no matter what.  Thomas, I want you to be with Roberto.  Geraldo, Antonio, Ritchie and Oscar I would also like you to be by Cici’s guard.  Gerardo, Alejandro and Nicolas I want you with your mates in the safe house.  If I should fail, Geraldo I want you to send a message to everyone in the pack immediately so they will have time to get out.  I have already sent everyone a message so everyone wanting to leave will be ready to do so in an instant.” Mateo explains looking at each of his friends and pack members in turn.  Some look like they want to argue but he has put his Alpha command in with so they are unable to argue.

“As you wish, Mateo.  Shall we get this done then?” Eugenio asks quietly.

“I need a moment with Cici and the guys.  Guys, will you get your mates and return here, please?  I would like to talk to them along with you.” Mateo asks quietly.

Everyone starts to leave the room, except Joel who pulls his phone out of his pocket and turns toward the window.  I hear him ask Tia to come to Mateo’s office immediately so I turn back to Mateo to give him privacy.

“What about Tia?  Where do you want her?” I ask Mateo.

“She may go wherever she wants.  She is obviously a very powerful witch as well as half wolf so she is welcome to go wherever she wants as long as Joel agrees.”

“I’d like her to stay with me, if that’s alright.  I would also like Miakoda by my side as well.”

“Why?” Mateo asks me with a confused look on his face.

“I don’t know, Mateo.  I just have a feeling something is going to happen and I should have them by me.  I would like it if Thomas and his men could guard Roberto and the others in the safe room, also.”

“Done.  Anything else?”

“I love you.” I say quietly.

“I love you too.” he says as he pulls me onto his lap and runs a hand over my belly.  “Are you worried?”
