Liam's POV

The rest of the lads and Layla were drinking, and Harry was telling a pointless about.. well I'm not really sure anymore because he was talking so slow, and his words were slurred, but all of them were laughing. Suddenly I felt somebody cuddle up to me, and I knew who it was immediately: Emerson. She used to cuddle with me all the time whenever we were tired and we'd stay at each other's houses and when we watched films, especially scary ones.

I froze for a second. I didn't know what to do. Before, she wasn't even talking to me and sent me glares whenever she looked my way. Now she is cuddling up next to me acting like nothing has happened in the last few days that we have seen each other.

I looked down at her, and saw her eyelids were closed, covering her deep blue eyes. She was asleep. I felt my lips pull up into a smile and I put my arm around her shoulder before I knew what I was doing. When I didn't feel her tense up like she usually does whenever I talk to her, I began stroking her shoulder softly, making sure she stays asleep.

I heard Zayn's familiar laugh ring out and I looked over there. It seemed Layla and Zayn were getting on great, I just don't really want them to move so quickly, since he met her three days ago. She seems great, but I don't want him getting hurt.

Ella grinned and then turned to look at me, and I could see her eyes were dazed and she slurred, "Heyy Liam!! I know why Emmy is mad at you!" She giggled and snuggled closer to Zayn.

The group quiets as we all turn to look at Layla, who was oblivious to the situation at hand. My eyes don't leave hers as I hold my breath hoping that she will reveal why Emerson won't speak to me anymore.

"Wanna know why? Ha well, you see, when you left, she was gonna tell you sh-"

I didn't stop her, but Emerson did. She gasped and flew out of my arm and straight up. Layla's eyes widened as she realized what she nearly did, and she immediately clasped her hand over her mouth. Emerson looked around, confusion evident on her pretty face. "What's going on," she asks, "did I fall asleep? Also, why is everyone looking at me?"

Layla stared at Emerson, her nervous energy infiltrating the group. Even Emmy could eventually feel it. "Layla," Emerson said, "did I miss something while I was asleep?"

Layla, obviously relieved that Emerson didn't overhear her blabbering to me about her friend's feelings.

Emerson narrowed her eyes at her, as if she knew she was lying, and turned to look at me with an ashamed look in her eyes. "Did I.. did I fall asleep on.. you?" The way she asked that sounded like that was the last thing in the world that she wanted to do.

"Yeah.. it's alright though. I don't mind." I gave her a sheepish grin, and she just watched me warily.

She rolled her eyes and got up, taking off her blanket that I had given her and walked to the car.

I looked at the rest of them and suggested, "How bout we leave? It's getting late." They all nodded and moved to pack up their things. I grabbed the beer and mine and Emerson's chairs and walked over to the car.

"Layla, I know you're lying. What happened while I was asleep?" I heard Emerson demand. They couldn't see me, so I stayed hidden.

"Nothing happened, Emmy! We were just being drunk!" Layla lied.

"Layla, I'm not stupid, we have been best friends for four years, I should know when you lie. Now can you just tell me what happened," I heard Emerson plead.

I saw Layla look down and fiddle with her hands. I faintly heard her whisper, "I almost told him why you were mad at him.."

I didn't see Emerson's reaction, but I know she is pissed off. "You what?!"
