Zayn Malik was having a really bad morning. First he couldn’t sleep after the meeting that had happened between him and the elders. The elders had this crazy idea that Zayn was reckless with his leadership. He was the Alpha of a small pack of shape shifters, one that only consisted of six members including an advisor. Zayn’s Beta went by the name of Harry Styles. Harry was his best friends, was tall, had curly brown hair, and was cocky and arrogant-much like Zayn himself. The next member of his pack was Marcel Styles-Harry’s twin brother. Marcel was the advisor of the pack, but could not shift; he was gentle and quiet. Marcel was often ignored unless his assistants was needed, which was fine with him.

An alarm rang out, waking the half-sleeping Alpha. Zayn sleepily pushed his way off the bed, and made his way to his bathroom. The house he lived was somewhat large, considering the whole pack lived there. None of the other boys had  mated, nor were any of his pack members female. Which was good, considering the boys had a liking to not wearing clothing.

“Alpha!” A voice rang out. It was Josh, another member. Josh was average height, muscular, and the best fighter (besides Zayn) in the pack.

“Yeah?” Zayn called back down. He had yet to get dressed for school, which was in his mind pointless.

“Elder Grayson is here to see you!” Josh called. Shit, thought Zayn. He was hoping that he could avoid speaking to the Elders’ for as long as he could. Zayn sighed to himself.

“Thank you, Josh. I will be right down.” He called back. Normally, he wasn’t so friendly; however in the presence of an elder one must always be polite. He quickly got dressed and looked in the mirror. His black hair was styled nicely, his white t shirt showed his upper body tattoos nicely, and his tan skin looked great with the dark ink. He made his way down stairs.

“Elder Grayson,” He greeted politely, “What brings you to the pack house this early?” He asks. He sits at the table, and Marcel brings him coffee. The rest of the boys go to their respected rooms to occupy their time before school because they weren’t allowed to be in a meeting between Zayn and the Elders unless asked. Marcel was always allowed to sit with Zayn when he was with an Elder because he was the pack advisor. It was so normal that Zayn didn’t think he could function without Marcel.

“To discuss the meeting last night. We want you to understand what we told you.” Elder Grayson said. Elder Grayson was an old man with white hair. He lived in the unneeded generation of wolves. This generation had no need for shifters, so they grew old and held some power over Zayn’s pack.

“I do understand, Elder.” Zayn told him. Marcel was sitting at the table stirring his tea, doing his trademark ‘I’m pretending I’m not listening, but I hear every word’ face. He remembered that last night the Council of Elders had threatened to take his Alphaship away if he did not start acting responsible.

“We have added a new clause in the arrangement, Zayn.” Elder Grayson told him. Zayn began to feel nervous, he looked at Marcel. Marcel was paying close attention to the Elder, but he looked at Zayn and gave him an encouraging look. Marcel was well versed on the laws of the Council. “You have one year to find your mate, and get her to agree to join this pack.” Zayn drew in a sharp breath, and felt anger grow deep in his bones.

“With all due respect, Elder,” Zayn said through clenched teeth, “ I have no control over when I meet my mate.” He said.

“All Alpha’s meet their mates before they turn nineteen. You are eighteen, therefore you will meet her, or him, in less than a years’ time.” Elder Grayson told him. Zayn was furious at this time. He was an Alpha, he was not supposed to be ordered around.
