Caledonia pushed past Zayn on her way to the kitchen. Zayn found this adorable, yet annoying.

“Zayn, please help yourself.” Jane told him, sweetly. Zayn turned on his charm, and with a quick smirk to Caledonia, replied.

“Thank you, Mrs. Gentry.” He told her politely, and Caledonia had to reframe from gagging. She did, however, roll her eyes. She went into the kitchen to help Jane with the food, and brought it to the table. She took her seat, and watched in dismay, as Zayn sat next to her. She internal groaned, and grabbed some mashed potatoes and plopped some on her plate.

“You aren’t going to serve me?” Zayn whispered her in a mock innocent tone. Zayn watched in satisfaction as Caledonia’s mouth dropped in shock.

“Serve yourself, motherfucker.” She whispered back, angrily. Caledonia purposely passed the dish to her uncle who was blissful unaware of the conversation happening.

“I love when you talk dirty.” Zayn relies to her, chuckling softly. Zayn takes this time to get a good look at his mate. He takes in her makeup free face, her messy just washed hair, and her lazy outfit. He takes notice of a four lined bruise on her arm, and he frowns. “Do you have any soda?” He asks Jane, who nods.

“Caledonia, dear, would you please show Zayn where we keep the drinks?” Jane asks her niece. Caledonia sighs and nods her head. She gets up and without a glance to Zayn, she gets up to walk to the kitchen and hears Zayn behind her. She opens the fridge door, and Zayn shuts it.

Caledonia glared at Zayn. “What?” She asks him harshly.

“Why the hell hasn’t your arm healed?” He asked her. He was upset that he had did that, but he wasn’t going to tell her that. Caledonia looks down at her arm, and notices the hand shaped bruise on her arm. She is shocked that she didn’t notice it earlier in the shower.

“It’s a bruise, dumbass, it will be there for days or weeks even.” She tells him. Forcing the door open she grabs him a soda and shoves it in his hand. She walks back into the dining room, and takes her seat again. She grabs the wine bottle and pours herself a glass, and her aunt and uncle don’t bat an eye.

“How was the first day of school, Cal?” Ted asked her. Caledonia wanted to just shrugged, but she felt that she owned it to her uncle to answer.

“It was fine. My classes are pretty easy, since I ahead at my old school.” She tells them shrugging.

“Made any friends yet?” Ted asks. Caledonia snorts as she shovels green beans into her mouth.

“Yeah, couple of guys.” She tells them. Zayn grips his spoon tightly, but it goes unnoticed by Cal.

“No girls?” Ted asks her teasingly. Caledonia shrugs.

“Nah, I like boys more than girls.” She tells them, and she hears Zayn snort.

“Any boys check your eye?” Jane asks winking at her. Caledonia has to laugh out loud at this.

“No, Jane.” She tells her. Zayn is disappointed but relieved. He is disappointed that she isn’t interested in him, but relieved that she isn’t interested in any one else-like Michael. He doesn’t have to worry about Luke or Ashton, but Michael was to clingy today for his liking.

“So, Cal,” Zayn says and Caledonia frowns at the nickname coming from him, “When did you move here?” Cal decides to pour herself another glass of wine and ignore the question. The table sets in silent until Ted decides to speak up.

“Caledonia moved her about a week ago.” He says simply. Caledonia hopes that Zayn drops it, but he doesn’t.

“Oh. Why?” He asks curiously. Caledonia inhales sharply, and drains her glass.

            “Well.” Her aunt starts.

            “No.” Caledonia says sharply.

“Caledonia Kathleen Harkin! I’m sorry, Zayn. Cal’s parents passed away in a house fire.” Jane tells Zayn softly. Caledonia can’t believe her aunt told Malik. She slams her silverware down on the table and pushes her chair back roughly and storms upstairs.

Zayn is still sitting, dumbfounded. He is unsure of what to do, but his gut is telling him to comfort Caledonia.

“Zayn I want to apologize for my niece behavior.” Ted tells him. Zayn smiles politely.

“Don’t be Mr. G. I am going to check on her, if that’s okay?” He asks, whether they said yes or no-he was going upstairs. Jane nods and goes back into conversation with her husband. Zayn quietly made his way up the stairs, and stopped in the hallway. He listened carefully for sound of steps or something to indicate what room Cal was in. When Zayn found the room, he entered without knocking. Caledonia was pacing around the room at a slow, lazy pace. She looks up when he enters the room, and instantly frowns.

“Get out.” She tells him, simply. She glad that she didn’t start crying, and all she wants is to be left alone.

“No.” He tells her, sitting on Caledonia’s bed. Cal looks at him with anger, and turns her back to him. He smirks at her, and enjoys being in her company even if she doesn’t want  him here with her.

“I hate you.” Caledonia tells him, and Zayn smirks-hiding his hurt.

“Doesn’t matter, want to talk about it?” Zayn tells her, laying down on his back on Caledonia’s bed with his arm behind his head.

“You don’t deserve to know.” She spits at him. Zayn smiles at her.

“Why?” He asks. Caledonia turns and looks at him with a look of shock.

“You’re an asshole.” She tells him.

“I’m sorry about your parents.” Zayn tells her softly, and that’s all it took. Tears ran down Caledonia’s face and she didn’t even bother to brush them off. Zayn is frighten by this sudden emotional, and he gets up off the bed. He wants to hug her, but he knows she will push him off.

“Don’t.” Is all Caledonia can manage to say. She cannot handle this right now. From missing her friends to Zayn being nice; it’s all too much.

“Tell me what you want me to do?” Zayn begs her. He doesn’t like seeing her like this. Caledonia scoffs bitterly.

“I don’t want a damn thing from you, Malik. I want my parents back, but you can’t do that. Now get the fuck away from me, and never talk to me again.” She tells him, angrily.

“I can’t do that.” Zayn tells her truthfully. Cal’s tears have stopped as soon as they started, and now she is filled with rage.

“Get out!” She screams at him. Zayn takes a step towards her, and she backs up to the wall. “Malik, get out.” She tells him softly. Zayn takes one look at her, and leaves her there with her anger and tears.
