Tony:

Jenna’s voice was amazingly beautiful. I couldn’t help but smiling as she finished singing Hold on ‘Till May. The song turned out incredible! Everyone loved it. “Could you sing another song Jenn? Please?” Nat asked with a big smile on her face. Jenna thought for a moment then leaned into my ear and whispered. “Could you play Children of Divorce?” I nodded.

I looked at her and mouthed the numbers as I counted off. One, two, three, four. I began strumming as she began to sing.

“And back to these cold, shitty days in Portland.

Wishing I’d never come across your face.

Plagued by the memories of things unspoken.

Scared by thoughts of your father.

Made me look over the flaws of your nature,

Laying on your back became your only escape.”

I got lost in her beautiful voice. I looked over at her as she sang. Her eyes were closed and I could see the passionate look in her face. I looked around the circle of friends and everyone was enjoying the song. Why wouldn’t they? It was amazing, and even more when sung by her. I could listen to her voice all day.

“I knew from the moment I stepped off that plane,

We had, no future.

How come your dreams are always so bitter?

But who knows?

Maybe one day,

She will know my name.

She will know, She will know.”

Jenna finished the song and everyone was quiet for a moment. “You have such a beautiful voice Jenn.” Nat said after some time. Everyone agreed and I could see Jenna blushing. We all sat around for some more time and took turns singing songs. I, of course, stuck to playing guitar. I’m not a singer. I noticed Jenna taking some picture with her camera and I smiled when she turned the camera on me. “Jenn, pass over your camera so I can take some pictures with you in them.” Vic called and Jenn did as he asked. He pointed the camera towards us and took a picture of Jaime, Jenna and me. He took pictures for a while longer while everyone made ridiculous faces at the camera.

We were all laughing when Leila spoke up suddenly. “Hey Jenn. What plans do you have for your birthday?” “I don’t really have plans for it right now. I don’t feel like doing much this year.” She said. “Wait, when’s your birthday?” Mike asked looking at Jenn. “Thursday.” She said shyly. Damn, I had forgotten that she said her birthday was in a couple of days. “Really? Why didn’t you tell us?” Vic sounded surprised. “It just didn’t seem important. Like I said I don’t have plans or anything.” Her voice sounded indifferent about the topic. “Okay, I get you. I probably wouldn’t have said anything either if it was my birthday.” She nodded and we changed the subject. After talking for another hour or so Jaxin yawned. “Well, I think it’s time Nat and I head home.” He said as he stood and helped Natalie to her feet. “Yeah, I think I should be getting these girls home too. Plus my mom will be wondering where I’m at.” I heard Jenna say as she stood up. “Tony, I’m going to head up to your room and change back into my clothes okay?” I nodded and she disappeared into the house. A few minutes later she came back out wearing her outfit from earlier today. She looked cute.

“Alright man, thanks so much for everything and we’ll see you guys soon okay? Nice seeing you again Jenn and it was nice meeting your friends.” Jaxin and Nat exchanged number with Jenn and so did the rest of the guys. “Keep in touch, alright?” he said to Jenn and her friends and they all nodded. We all said goodbye to Jaxin and Nat as they walked out the door. Jenn and the girls stayed for a bit longer to help clean up. “Hey, don’t worry about the mess. We’ll take care of it.” I said as I walked over to Jenna. “Are you sure?” she asked and I nodded. “Alright, well we better get going then. Thanks for inviting us Tone. And thanks guys for the great food! We had an amazing time.” She said to my group of friend and me. “We sure did.” Leila chimed in as Kristi nodded. “No problem. It was awesome hanging out with you. Hopefully we see you again soon and have a great birthday Jenn.” Vic spoke up. We walked the girls to the door and said our goodbyes. I hugged Jenn tightly before she left and gave her a smile. “Drive safely.” I said and she nodded. She started walking away with her friends. She was still wearing my jacket and she looked good. I couldn’t help but smile.

The guys and I started cleaning up the backyard then gathered in the living room when we finished. “So, I say we should plan something for Jenn’s birthday.” Jaime said, gaining nods from everyone. “How about we take her out to dinner? We could tell Jaxin and Nat to come along too.” Mike threw out the first idea. “That doesn’t sound too bad. What do you think Tone?” Vic looked over to me. “Sounds good to me. But we should make it a surprise. You guys could head over to the restaurant and me Jaime could go pick her up telling her we’re taking her somewhere special. Then we could meet up with you guys over there.” Jaime nodded at my idea. “That seems like it could work. Damn man, you got us tangled up with this girl as well.” Mike said laughing. “Hey, you guys brought it up, not me.” I chuckled. “True, true. She is really cool though. For her age she’s really mature.” Vic said. Jaime agreed. “Yeah, she is. So the plans are made then. Where should we take her?” I thought for a moment, then the perfect place came to my mind and I smiled. I looked at the guys. “I know just the place."
