(Chapter 7) Carnival

Elena's POV

After I got changed into light wash skinny jeans, a loose white tank top that had a gold heart in the middle, and my dark brown combat boots, I went back downstairs.

Kol was waiting in the living room wearing a black t-shirt and dark jeans.

"Ready?" He asked.

"Yup, let's go. Should we invite Klaus to join us?"

"Nah, besides Caroline came over. She wanted to hang out with him today."

"Oh okay. Let's go."

After 25 minutes of driving, he stopped.

We were at a carnival.

Not exactly what I was expecting but at least there's food.

"Why are we here?" I ask as we walked in.

"For fun." He replied.

We had to buy tickets to go on the rides. Kol bought the $25 arm band that let's us go on any ride as much as we want.

"Come on I wanna ride something." He said.

I followed him and stared at the ride. It was the Zipper.

"Oh my gosh." I say.

"You're not scared are you?" He asked.

"Slightly."

"Good enough."

He showed the man our armbands so the man stopped the ride and opened the door.

We entered and so did the others.

It was a two seater and had wires that locked us in.

It was scarier than I thought, but it was fun. When we spun around my body was facing the ground while I was up in the air. I felt like we were falling and were gonna hit the ground.

I held onto Kol's hand until the ride was over.

"That was fun, but scary." I say.

"Wanna go again?" He asked.

"Maybe later, I wanna eat."

We had cotton candy. I had a strawberry one while he had blueberry.

"There's a photo booth!" I say while pointing at it.

"Let's go." He replied.

We took weird pictures, holding our cotton candies and sticking out tongues out.

There were 4 photos so I tore it in half and let him keep the other 2.

After a couple more rides it was dark. Kol was playing a balloon pop game, trying to win me this banana stuffed toy while I drank deliciously cold lemonade when someone yelled out,

"Kol! Elena!"

We both turned and found Caroline and Klaus. Her arm was wrapped around his while she smirked.

Why? Why, do they have to be here?

"Hey guys." Kol and I say.

"So, what are you guys doing?" Caroline asked.

"Trying to win Elena a stuffed animal."

He turned back around and ignored her so I gave them a smile and just turned back around, sipping my lemonade.

"We'll leave you guys to be, bye!" Caroline said.

Kol threw the darts and hit all three. So I ended up carrying a giant banana around.

"Thanks Kol."

"Your welcome Elena. We should head home, it's getting late."

"Okay come on."

I thanked Kol again for a wonderful time before I went to my room and he thanked me for my fun company.

Then I slept.

Klaus's POV

I drove Caroline home and was eating alone in the quiet dining room when Elijah came downstairs.

"Is something bugging you Niklaus? You seem out of it these days and I don't think it's because you've missed me." He said.

"It's nothing." I reply.

"Doesn't seem like nothing. Tell me, do you care about Elena? The second I came back here, I've noticed the way you look at her and how you smile when she's around you."

"I'm with Caroline, Elijah."

"Okay then but you know, you didn't answer the question Niklaus."

He walked back upstairs and I thought about it. I love Caroline.

I love Caroline.

No matter how many times I say it, it feels like a lie. I know I love her but maybe it's just as a friend but Kol told me something last night after I came back with Elena that's stopping me from telling Elena that, I still love her.

Kol was sitting in the living room after I tucked Elena in her room.

"What happened Nik?" He asked.

"Elena's sick." I say.

"Oh, I hope she feels better soon. By the way, did you guys date before or something? There's like a weird vibe between you guys."

"Sort of but that was in the past. I'm with Caroline."

"Okay then. So, would you be fine with me going out with her? I like her Niklaus."

"Uhh it's fine. Just, don't hurt her okay."

"I won't."

I chose not to think about it and just finish my meal.

It was hard for me to sleep, I kept on turning and moving but finally, after an hour, I managed.
