(Chapter 9) Necklace

~The Next Day~

Elena's POV

After waking up I walked to the bathroom and brushed my teeth.

I stared at myself, looking at my necklace. It was an infinity sign on a silver chain.

I thought about last night, when Klaus pulled away from our kiss and told me that he was sorry he just did that and that it was wrong.

I'm mad at him. He can't just go kissing me while dating someone else. It's bad enough I have to watch him with someone else but kissing me then going back to Caroline is just torture.

I came downstairs ready to eat breakfast because today, I'm going back to work for the Mystic Grill.

I slowly walked down the stairs crossing my fingers and hoping that Klaus or Caroline weren't there.

Damn it.

Caroline saw me and greeted me with a smile. I gave her a smile back.

What a great way to start my beautiful morning, right after my birthday.

It was only her though, I'm guessing everyone else was sleeping. It's kinda creepy how she's always here whether we invite her or not but since Klaus is dating her, no one can do anything about it.

"Morning Elena."

"Hey Care."

"Oh I like your necklace. Where'd you get it?" She asked.

"Klaus gave it to me for my birthday."

She stopped smiling for a second but continued anyway.

"It's pretty." She says as she walks away to continue her breakfast.

I avoided Caroline by eating my bowl of cereal in my room.

When I finished I drove off to the Mystic Grill, Klaus probably had my car fixed last night.

I was actually happy to be back. Although, the other employees wondered where I've been, so I just told them that my relative in Canada had an accident so I had to leave immediately and ended up staying there too long.

Not my best lie but it was good enough.

Ugh, shoot me now.

Klaus and Caroline walked in. He was smiling until his gaze landed on mine. He looked away and so did I.

Sadly, I'm a waitress. I have to actually ask them for their order soon. But on my way to another table, Caroline bumps right into me.

"Oh sorry Elena, didn't see you there. I'm such a klutz." She says.

"It's fine, no biggie."

Total lie, she's been different these days. Well, she's meaner, she's been rubbing her relationship with Klaus in my face. I wanna cut her up and feed her to the sharks but even I know that's not happening anytime soon.

When I get home I take a long shower and head downstairs for dinner. I was just quiet while Rebekah went on and on about something.

It was awkward though because I felt Klaus's stare the whole time. It's uncomfortable, stop staring!

I can't help but look up at him and realize he's not staring at my face but at my neck where my necklace was supposed to be.

What the? Where'd it go?

After I finish dinner I look around my room. I couldn't find it anywhere so I check the bathroom. Where is it?

I hope I didn't lose it in the drain.

Sorry for not uploading at all for more than a week, but it was my last week of school so everything was busy. Although since it's finally summer I'll probably be updating a lot more.
