Elena's POV

"I want you to kill Niklaus. In fact I already have an early gift for you."

~

Then I woke up. I then realized there was something in my hand, a white oak stake.

I gasped and suddenly let go of it.

The moment it hit the ground with a thud I remembered just what Esther told me, to kill Klaus.

Oh my god, this was her early gift, the only thing to kill Klaus.

"No, no, no." I say shaking my head.

I can't, I can't kill him. As much as I miss my family I can't bring myself to kill him. I have to get rid of this.

I brushed my teeth and had a quick shower. After I had breakfast I went out to the deck carrying my small black leather handbag. I zipped it open and stared at the flowing water. I should do this, it isn't right for me to kill him.

"I'm sorry Mom, Dad, and Jeremy. I have to do this, I can't, I can't kill anyone. I really do love you guys but as much as I miss you, I'm not trading your lives for his. Not because I love him more and I'm choosing, but I'm doing this because it isn't right."

I took the stake out of the bag and threw it in the water. It made a small splash and I felt guilty for what I just did, I threw away my family. It was my fault they died, Katherine wanted me, so this was my chance to make up for it and I threw it away but I feel like my parents would want me to do this. I'm sorry.

"Hey Elena! What are you doing here?"

I turned around to see an excited Kol standing over me.

"Umm nothing, I'm just staring at the waves." I answer.

He nodded.

"So, tonight there's this fancy cruise dance, everyone else is going. Not really my thing but you know how persistent Bekah can be. So would you like to come with me?" he asked.

I might as well enjoy the rest of the cruise, there aren't much days left and I've spent most of it sulking and crying.

I nodded. "Sure, that sounds like fun."

~

I wore an elegant blue dress all the way to my feet. I entered the white wooden doors and it revealed a nice ballroom with a gigantic chandelier in the middle of the ceiling. It was slightly dark and the theme colors of the tables and curtains were black and blue.

I held onto the side of my dress and walked down the stairs with my right hand holding the railing. Kol was waiting at the bottom of the staircase with his hand out.

"You look beautiful Elena."

"Thank you, and you look rather dashing as well." I answered with a smile.

A slow song was playing so I left my head right on Kol's shoulder while we talked about random things. He then spun me around and I landed on Klaus. I was gonna go back but Caroline decided to dance with Kol as well.

I gave him an awkward smile and wrapped my hands around his neck while he put his on my waist. It wasn't too bad so I decided to started talking.

I wanted to tell him about the Esther thing but maybe it's better not to. I mean they're all happy, it's Rebekah and Matt's anniversary, and it doesn't seem like the time so I should just keep it to myself right? Besides I've taken care of it, I threw the stake away.

"This reminds me of the Miss Mystic Falls dance last year." I say.

"Yeah it kinda does. It was fun." He says with a smile.

I looked up to his blue grey eyes as we danced to a slow song when I felt all the coloration in my face disappear. I was holding the same stake again and since my hands were around his neck, the long stake was pointing right toward his heart. I instantly removed my hands from Klaus's nape.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"I'll just uh g-get a drink, I-I'm thirsty."

I quickly went to the bar area and grabbed a small shot and took a sip, when he stopped looking, I ducked to the bathroom.

Then I walked to the bathroom and stare at the stake in shock. Why is it back? I just threw it in the ocean this morning.
