The following morning, Yasu was cooking breakfast in the kitchen while her brother, who had returned to Japan on the previous night when she returned from watching the match between Kaijo and Fukuda Sogo, was waiting in the dining room with a newspaper flipped open. While she was waiting for the salmon to be cooked on the grill pan, she heard her phone ringing, and picked up the call.
"Hello?" she said.
"Good morning, Yasu-san." said the soft-spoken person from the other line. "Are you busy?"
"Good morning, Kuroko." she replied before cradling the phone on her shoulder to flip the salmon. "I'm not really busy. Onii-chan came back last night, so I thought of cooking breakfast for us. What is it that you need?"
"I ripped my basketball shoes." he said. "Can you accompany me to buy a new pair?"
"Oh, were those the ones I gave you?" she asked.
"Yes." he said. "I'm sorry."
"Don't worry about it." assured Yasu with a smile while turning off the gas stove when the fish was cooked. "It just tells me that you've been working hard lately. Keep it up, okay?"
Though she couldn't see his face, she could feel him smiling from the other line. "Thank you, Yasu-san." he said. "Enjoy your breakfast. I'll see you later with Kagami-kun."
"Okay." she said before hanging up the phone. 'Kagami, too?' she questioned while serving the grilled salmon on a plate.
"Who was that, imouto-chan?" asked Giichi when she entered the dining room.
"Kuroko." she replied while putting the plate of grilled salmon on center of the table, surrounded by two bowls of rice on opposite sides each with a cup of green tea diagonally next to it, and few side dishes that consisted of seaweed, green beans and slices of umeboshi. "His and, I think, Kagami's shoes broke, so he invited me to join them on their shoe hunt."
"I see." he said before putting away the newspapers. Yasu took off the apron and sat across her brother. After saying "itadakimasu", the two of them began having their breakfast. "By the way, I heard your team advanced to the semifinals. Congrats!"
"Thanks, onii-chan." she said before shoving a piece of salmon into her mouth.
"Since I'm off for two weeks, I'll drop by and watch your team plays, okay?" he asked with a grin.
Yasu's eyes lit up and nodded enthusiastically. "That'd be great!" she said.
Giichi chuckled at her expression before gesturing her to eat. "You better hurry if you wanna meet up with your friends." he said.
"Oh, right!" said Yasu before continuing to eat her breakfast. After eating and cleaning up the table with Giichi volunteering to do the dishes, she left the house wearing her school uniform and her bag slung around her shoulder. Yasu texted Furihata the list of things that they needed to buy for the team while walking towards the city central. By the time she was done, she had arrived at where Kuroko was waiting, and they were soon joined by Kagami.
"Hi there." greeted Kuroko.
"Good morning, Kagami." said Yasu with a smile.
"Morning, Yasu." greeted back the said boy before the three of them went around to look for their new shoes. "Wait, how'd you destroy your shoes too, Kuroko?"
"That's my line." he said, only to have Kagami heaving a sigh.
The three of them entered the first shop where Kuroko was able to buy new shoes with Yasu helping him check its grip and comfort. Once it had her approval, they left the shop with Kuroko carrying a bag that had his shoes, and Kagami had none. They went to two more shops to look for the latter's new shoes, but they ended up leaving with Kagami empty-handed.
