葉山 小太郎 (Hayama Kotaro)

"Wow, I never thought Kyoto would be this beautiful." commented Yasu, who was in awe of the view around her.

It was Winter vacation, and school was off for ten days. But few weeks before the school holidays, Yasu came across a travel documentary about Kyoto broadcasted on TV, and it intrigued her to visit the prefecture. After planning her budget and schedule, she booked a four-night stay at a budget hotel. After packing up her things that she needed to bring few nights before the first day of her trip, she boarded the train early in the morning, and embarked on a three-hour journey to Kyoto. It was a long ride, but it was worth it. When she got out of the station, she was amazed by the view. She thought she was in Winter wonderland.

Realising that she had arrived just few minutes before her check-in time, Yasu went to the hotel she had booked in advance and left her luggage in her room before walking around while taking pictures with her camera. She went to a restaurant that was recommended by a few locals whom she asked along the way, and had a delicious lunch that consisted of a dozen of Kyoto-style gyoza, a bowl of rice, miso soup, and few slices of pickles. When she was done, she continued her journey to walk around the city, buying small souvenirs for her friends and family.

"Yasu-chan!" called a familiar cheerful voice.

The said girl, at that time, was leaving a souvenir shop with a small bag of trinkets. She looked at the person and was surprised to see who it was. "Hayama-senpai?" she said.

He grinned widely, and jogged towards her. "What are you doing here all the way from Tokyo?" he asked.

"Well, I wanted to be a little more adventurous, so I decided to come here by myself." she replied.

Hayama looked at her with surprise. "No way!" he said. "You came here alone?"

"Yeah." she replied with a nod.

"Sounds sad, but that's amazing." he commented. He glanced at the side for a moment before a thought came up in his mind. "Hey! Since I'm off for the next few days, why don't I show you around?"

It was Yasu's turn to look at him with surprise. "Are you sure?" she asked. "Not that I mind or anything like that, but I thought you have practice."

"We managed to get Akashi to give us some days off." he said before a pout formed on his face. "But that only means double training when we return."

Yasu giggled at his expression. "I know how you feel." she said with sympathy. "Back in Teiko, he would do the same thing. And by the time the others completed their training, they nearly passed out."

The colour on Hayama's face drained at the thought of going through the hellish training Akashi would give them. "Am I going to die?" he questioned himself.

The girl's melodious laugh snapped him out of his thoughts, and he blushed when he saw her smile. "No, you won't die." she assured. "Because I know you have the energy to go through something like that. And due to the aftermath of the Winter Cup, I don't think Akashi will be the same as before."

He took a moment to think about what she said, and realised that she was right, as Akashi was no longer malicious and cold-hearted as before. "You're right." he muttered before turning to face her with excitement. "Anyway, let's go! I have a few places to show you."

"Okay!" responded Yasu, who was as excited as him.

Hayama then took her to places that were off the beaten path but still popular with the locals; shrines, parks, craft shops, and more souvenir shops. Throughout the journey, if Yasu wasn't taking photos with her camera, she would be chatting with Hayama. "Tell me about yourself, Hayama-senpai." she began.
