New Beginnings

Chapter 14

Chris just moved back so he could sit on the couch. Brittany was with Lisa and Steve was lying on the bed. Chris went to close his eyes.

"I will close them for a second. I hope nothing happens." Chris said

Lisa saw that Chris was there. Brittany saw that Chris was on the couch, she quietly slides next to him. He moved his arm and put it around her.

"Oh I thought you were sleeping" Brittany said

"No I just closed my eyes for minute." Chris replies

"Well for now Steve is doing okay. I am going to keep eye on him. This has been hell but at least he is still with us." Lisa said

Chris opened his eyes. Brittany felt his arm moving.

"Where are you going? I was not done with you." Brittany said

"Stay there I want to go check something. Is he awake?" Chris said

"Yes why?" Lisa said

"I just thought of something. Be back in couple minutes. Brittany keeps her busy." Chris said

He left the room and Lisa sits next to Brittany. They could hear Chris closing the door.

'Steve buddy, are you awake?" Chris said

"Yes I am. I am having trouble sleeping." Steve said.

"I know you are in pain. Just wondering if we could talk or if not I will come back." Chris said

Steve reaches up to try to push himself up. Chris reached over to help him.

"Okay what you want to know?" Steve said as he moans from the pain.

"If you are firefighter how did you let her get you?" Chris said as he looked at him

"She came up behind me. I was walking when I was attacked. The next thing I know was she on top of me stabbing me. I fought her off but she kept coming. I even kicked her back trying to make space between us. I was trying to get help when I knew I could stop her. That is why my cell phone was near me. I was trying to call for help." Steve said.

"You are lucky I came looking for you. You could be gone by now. Lisa sent me looking for you. She was scared and I had to fix this." Chris said

Steve let out a scream and Chris knows he was hurting. He pointed to the meds. Steve waved it off.

"I do not need them. I am screaming because I was thinking about that night before this happened. I cannot cry right now but it would hurt worse. Just wish what happened did not.

Chris got up and left. Lisa was at the door. Chris let her go in and then closed the door. Brittany saw Chris coming and moved her feet. Chris sat down and Brittany put her arms around him. She did not know what happened but it looked like Chris was not happy. Brittany did not say anything but when she looked away. She heard something in distance.

"Chris, I hear something." Brittany said

"Yes it is Steve or Lisa." Chris said

"No it sounds like it is coming from outside." She replies

Chris looked up and got up. He looked out the window to see police going down the road.

"Oh okay. It is cops going down the road. It is nothing I need to worry about." Chris said as he came back.

Brittany just shook her head. Chris was right. It was nothing they need to worry about. About that time Chris's phone goes off and he saw it was Victoria.
