Harry's POV:
I head down to the edge of the forest where the class is bunched together, quickly apologising to Hagrid for my lateness. He waved it off with one dustbin lid sized hand telling me not to worry about it but to not be late again. I quickly made my way to Hermione's side ignoring the disapproving death glare I got for being late.
Hagrid told the class to get on with the work set and chatter broke out amongst them as they began to follow the professors instructions.
"What I we doing Mione," I asked following her to an area slightly separate from the rest of the Gryffindors. "We are using the binoculars to look at birds and other winged animals in the forest, we're to sketch them and study links between magical and non magical ones....of course you would know that if you arrived to your lessons on time.." Hermione responded adding the last part under her breath but still in her judgey tone.
I decide against arguing with her and instead apologise and tell her that she is right, something Hermione loves others to do. She seems to forgive me as she gave a curt nod before handing me a pair of binoculars and a sketch pad.A few rough sketches and Hermione correcting my identification of the said sketched creatures later and I decide to ask her for help with the most recent, frequent debate that I have been having with myself.
I'm careful with my approach though not wishing to offend her in any way.
"Hermione, your smart and stuff," I begin, receiving a questioning rase of an eyebrow.
"I've been trying to figure something out lately and I'm not sure what I'm thinking..." she motioned me to continue. "I think..umm...IthinkImightbehomophobic," I rush out bowing my head in shame at her disapproving sigh.
"Why do you think this,Harry?? you were so passionate when you were arguing with Ron, and Draco's your friend, you always defend your friends."
"I don't know, I mean Draco is just amazing and I'd never want to do anything to hurt him, and even know I really try I can't help but feel nauseous and disgusted when he speaks about boys he's been with and earlier he kissed a boy when I was there," I say quickly getting a shocked look from Hermione.
I quickly add, "he's not with him or anything, I think it was probably a one time thing, the guy asked him to he was confused about himself. That just confused me more I mean in principle i don't care at all but I'm well um....practice...it really bothered me, i felt a bit sick if I'm honest. I mean I don't know maybe it's just a guy thing but then I've always seemed to think that I'd fall for someone regardless of gender. But now I'm thinking maybe I was lying to myself. I just don't know, Hermione, I can't ever do anything to hurt Dray."
She rolls her eyes at my ramblings, and places a loving hand on my shoulder, "you are a fool Harry James Potter," she smiled without any true malice in her voice. I began to protest but she waved me off, "this is something you have to figure out for yourself, you've always been so blind," and with that last comment she cut across the group to hand in our sketches to Hagrid.
I didn't move from where I was standing twirling my pencil in between my finger now even more confused than before. The lesson passed quickly, probably because I had already missed a large portion of it. I thanked Hagrid, apologising again for my lateness and telling him that I'd pop round for tea soon. I headed back up to the castle waiting for Draco outside of his greenhouse when I realise he isn't out yet.
The class piles out of the small greenhouse door, clearly eager to get to lunch, a few seconds after everyone has left Draco glides out, clearly to avoid the scuffle to leave, his eyes light up when he sees me making my head spin and chest hurt, I grin back all the same not realising that I've missed him even in just that short time.
"Shall me have a picnic? instead of going to the hall," he asks linking his arm through mine.
"Yeah I like that idea," I reply honestly not wanting to have to deal with anyone else.
We head down to the lake and I call kreature who brings us a blanket and a basket and we both lie down on it soaking up the surprisingly warm midday sun. "I'm going to burn in this heat," he laughs casting a quick sun protector charm, "do you need one?"
"Yeah okay then, although I don't really burn I just tan."
"Oh how horrible for you," he jokes nudging my shoulder, I smile and push him back.
Two minutes later we are in a full blown scuffle. He swings a long leg over me straddling me, pinning me to the ground. I allow him to think he's won before flipping us over and pinning his arms above his head. He looks up at me flirtatiously and I smirk at the little minx beneath me, I bring my head down close to his, so I can whisper in his ear, "it's not going to work on me, Mr. Malfoy." He gasps and my breath on his neck, turning his head to expose it to me, I can't help but think how gorgeous he looks like this. My hands loosen from pinning him down, and I instantly realise my mistake, as he flips us over in a matter of seconds. I stare up at him shocked.
"Never forget, mr. Potter, I am a malfoy, a master manipulator," he coos his face mere inches from mine. I can feel his minty breath on my lips and I'm close enough to see the flecks of silver in his eyes. His tight grip doesn't falter and just as I decide to move my head up to bring my lips to his, he sits up getting off me pulling his ringing phone from his back pocket. I must ask him how he managed to get his phone to work on the grounds.
I quickly take in a gulp of air not realising that I hadn't been breathing. I was actually going to kiss him, I was going to kiss my friend, thank god his phone rang that would have been so awkward. I sit up still slightly shaken, I mean at least I can't be a homophobe. "It's Pansy, Hun, can I answer it? Umm she might want to speak to you." I nod quickly not really thinking about the question, he quickly presses the button and the video call connects.
