Tightrope

Stuck in between
Who I was
And who I
Want to be
Stuck in between
Mom and my family
Stuck in between
Wanting to stay
Yet feeling the desperate
Need to break away

Here is what I do-
I take on the role
Of peacemaker, mother, daughter,
Niece, granddaughter, and sister
I call to check in being stuck
In the center of it all
Losing myself more and
More each day

Here is what I know-
They all want me to be myself
But what they're really saying
Is they don't want me to turn
Out like them
They keep checking in every
Time I stray too far because
they want me to stay
As close as possible

I walk a tightrope
Moving back and forth
Over the canyon between
Them afraid to make even
The slightest of movements
Because one wrong move
Will send me falling

Falling, Falling, Falling

Until I hit the
Ground only here in
The dark do I find
My peace
