"Mom, let go, let go... Ow!" I groaned in pain, trying to tug away from my mom's arms. Mom sniffed for the millionth time and slowly let go of the hug that's also known as the 'death choke'.
"I'm sorry Alison. I just can't believe you're leaving home! You're not even eighteen yet!" Mom sniffled, wiping a few of her hopefully last tears.
"C'mon mom, pull yourself together. This is just boarding school. Uncle Simon is paying for me to go to this school, and it'd be really rude if I didn't take up the offer. It is a prestigious high school after all."
Mom shrugged and nodded. "I guess so."
She handed me the rest of my luggage and the sheet of paper with all my classes I'll be taking. We said one last goodbye—not really— and left. It hurt both inside and out to see mom leave because despite all those hard times we've gone through, she's still my mom and I love her. Dad served for the military and was overseas so I did feel bad because mom was all alone.
I dragged my luggage across the concrete and walked inside. The walls were red and white with a huge moral in the middle of the hallway. It had a huge picture of a pigeon. I continued going around the school, but suddenly stopped when I reached the music room.
What was that?
Wow God, I'm stupid. Of course people were singing. But it wasn't just any voice I have ever heard. I couldn't help but drop my luggage and tiptoe closer to where the singing came from. I listened carefully, my ear against the door. The voices I were hearing just sounded so unique and it was amazing.
When he opens his arms and holds you close tonight,
It just won't feel right
CoauseI can love you more than this
Yeah
When he lays you down I might just die inside
It just don't feel right
Cause I can love you more than this
Love you more than this...
My vision suddenly got blurry and tears prickled in the corners of my eyes. I quickly wiped them off and shook these emotions off.
"Hey, wanna go get a drink?" One of the voices asked.
"Sure, let me just get my briefcase." Said another voice.
I suddenly snapped out of the daze I was currently living in. I grabbed the handles of my suitcases and rushed my way out of the room, as far away as I could get until I was out of sight. When I thought that I was out of sight, I continued looking for the dorms area. After awhile of searching, I found DORM 143.
I took out the key in my pocket and unlocked the door. When I stepped inside, the room smelled of daffodils and cotton candy. I smiled and flopped onto the bed. I curled inside the striped blanket and let my head rest on the incredibly stuffed pillow.
This school was quite something...
*~*
I woke up half an hour later and changed into something more comfortable. Sweatpants and a v-neck white t-shirt. I checked the clock. 3:15. Then I remembered. I had a meeting with Uncle Simon today at 3:20. Quickly, I stormed out the dorm and ran (apparently this school allows running in the halls) my way to the Principal's office. I knocked softly on the door.
"Come in." A voice, recognizable as Uncle Simon answered. I twisted the doorknob and walked into the room. Simon was his usual self. Tuxedo, usual grim smile and sitting up on his black leather chair.
"How are you enjoying New Direction Academy?" Simon asked, his voice calm but also stern.
"It's okay, I haven't introduced myself to any of the other students yet." I answered.
Simon chuckled a bit. "Well that's because school is starting tomorrow and everyone is out enjoying themselves before school starts."
"Oh."
"I'd also like to point out that we wear uniforms." Simon said. I frowned. I'd brought two freaking luggage's and dragged them to this academy for miles and finding out that there's UNIFORMS?!?!
Instead of completely throwing a fit on Uncle Simon, I took a couple of deep breaths and pursed my lips together and forced a smile. "Oh, I see. Well, where can I get them?"
"I'll be paying for your uniforms, but you get to choose what kind of uniform you want." Simon said. "And we do have days where you don't need to wear uniform. Such as pep rallies or exam week."
"Wait a second, what do you mean by choosing what kind of uniform? There's different choices? I thought everyone wore the same clothes." I said, confused.
"Well this school's a bit different. And we have a variety of choices." Simon said, standing up. "Come with me, I'll show you."
We walked our way down the hall and into one of the rooms. Inside were hundreds, maybe thousands of coat hangers and piles of clothes. They each had a category, either labeled HS, LT, LP, ZM and NH. For example the clothes they had at LT were striped shirts, suspenders, colored jeans and toms and for some weird reason there were barely any clothes in the HS pile. Only blazers, plain t-shirts and regular jeans. One whole area is empty. Strange.
In the end I picked out a varsity jacket, a red polo shirt, a black/gray blazer, a striped shirt with two pairs of colored jeans one pair of toms and a plaid shirt. And I did get a couple of regular jeans in the HS area.
"I like this school's style, any typical school would have like a boring shirt and a skirt." I said, smiling at the clothes I got.
"Well this is no ordinary school." Simon replied. "You should unpack the rest of your things and redecorate your room if you please. Get a good night sleep for tomorrow. Wanna make a good first impression on the teachers, right?"
I nodded. "Will do Uncle Si."
Simon smiled and before I took off he patted me on the back and whispered into my ear, "Just don't make too an impression."
What did he mean by that?
