I don't know what my biggest regret is, leaving my daughter, or leaving her when she needed me the most. I was overseas for so many years, and I was gone for so long. Whenever I was in the same town as my daughter, I could never muster up the courage to go see her. I was a fool; I didn't deserve to see my daughter. I can tell that she probably hates my guts because for many years I ignored her, like she didn't exist.
But I only did that because I was afraid of her reaction if she saw me. Would she run into my arms like she used to as a kid? Or would she reject me with her entire body... I'm a terrible father.
But after all these years of hiding and running away from my problems, here I am. Standing in front of the school she currently attends, New Direction High. I wonder if she enjoys it here. I wonder if she's happy here. I hope she is. I hope she's having a great time and I hope she's finally ended her search for happiness.
I walked inside and slowly admired the nice interior and was surprised at all the trophies and awards they've won.
"Do you have business, otherwise, what do you need?" A female voice asked. I turned around and saw a brunette lady in uniform staring at me with a clipboard in her hand.
"Are you the receptionist?" I asked. She nodded, raising her thin glasses slightly. "Can I see Alison McKenzie?"
"She's out."
"Can I have the room number and extra key to Alison McKenzie's room t-then? O-Oh and I'm her father." I explained and took out my wallet, showing her my ID.
She leaned in and stared at the ID before a small grin rose from her lips. "You should've just said so! Alison has never had family visitors before so I bet she'll be very excited to see you once she returns. I can see Alison's resemblance to you too."
I chuckled nervously and thanked her after she handed me the extra key with the number '143'. I walked down the hallways, searching left and right for Dorm 143. My body froze once I finally found it and I inserted the key, turning it right and opened the doorknob after I heard the click.
Her room was messy looking, but I felt a heartwarming feeling after walking inside.
"What's this?" I said to myself, walking up one side of the wall that was completely covered with framed pictures and random photographs and paper's hanged or taped to the wall.
'My first day at the new school!!' Was written in black marker, with a picture of her smiling with my brother, Simon, inside what I assume is Simon's office.
'Mr. Payne's math song!' Was titled with lyrics of some strange song about adding, subtracting, multiplying and so on.
Her wall was filled with pictures of her experiences at school, with pictures of herself and her friends. But there was always one boy who was in most of her pictures. He looked a few years older than her, and he was really tall. The boy had wavy brown hair that had curled ends.
