I didn't remember falling asleep until I woke up the next morning. Well, it's actually almost noon since the digital clock on the bedside table read 11:30 A.M..

Wow! I must be very exhausted last night until I overslept. Yeah, how could I not be tired out because for the last two days I'd been through a lot of things? First, I was kidnapped, then I figured out that my kidnappers were vampires. After that, I was brought to the vampire kingdom only to find out that the king of vampires was my grandfather. Last but not least, they starved me since I didn't want to consume blood.

Throwing back the covers, I leapt out of bed and strolled to the door. I tried the door, but unsurprisingly it was locked.

“Sigmund?” I called out, but there wasn't an answer.

I knocked on the door. “Lupita?”

Again, I didn't get a reply.

“Anybody there?” I shouted frustratedly.

However, only silence responded me.

Sighing, I made my way towards the windows and drew back the curtains. I gasped at the view outside the window. This place was surrounded by a vast area of forest. There weren't any houses or other buildings as far as my eyes could see; only trees and more trees at every direction.

“Oh God, I am in the middle of nowhere right now. How can I escape from here?” I thought.

I heard footsteps approaching, and not long after that, the door flew open.

“My lady, I mean Rosanne, can I help you?” Lupita's familiar voice greeted me.

I turned around to see Lupita standing at the doorway in her usual maid uniform. But there was something wrong with her. She was shielding her face in the crook of her arms.

“Rosanne, would you mind pulling the curtains?” she requested urgently.

“What's wrong?” I asked confusedly.

“The sun,” was Lupita's only answer.

I understood what she meant and drew the curtains hurriedly. Lupita put down her arms and breathed a sigh of relief.

I suppressed a smirk. “So what people say that vampires get burnt in the sun is right? Hmm... maybe I can use it to my advantage someday.”

Lupita approached me and said, “Thank you, Rosanne.”

I smiled. “Never mind.”

“By the way, what can I do for you, Rosanne?” she asked me.

“Lupita, I am hungry. Could you please get me something to eat? Something that isn't made of blood of course,” I requested.

“I'm sorry Rosanne,” she said apologetically, “but I can't give you anything to eat without Lord Sigmund's permission.”

“Then let me talk to him!” I demanded.

“You can't talk to him because he's still sleeping right now,” she said.

My mouth dropped. “He's still sleeping in this hour? I mean it's almost noon, right?”

“You know, vampires sleep during the day,” Lupita explained.

“Oh yeah I forgot all of the people here are vampires,” I grumbled.

“But wait! If all vampires sleep during the day, why didn't you sleep now?” I asked.

“Actually, I was sleeping until I heard you calling my name,” she replied.

“Oh I'm sorry I woke you, Lupita,” I apologized.

She shook her head. “It's okay, Rosanne. It's my duty to serve you.”

“Lupita, can you wake Sigmund?” I asked her help.

“I'm- I'm sorry, Rosanne. I-I don't dare to wake him up because it will only anger him,” she stuttered.

Lupita seemed to be very afraid of Sigmund. That's why I decided not to urge her to wake Sigmund again.

“Okay. So when will he wake up?” I inquired.

“Shortly after sunset,” she answered.

I huffed. “Okay. I think the food can wait. At least could you give me something to drink? I don't know, maybe a cup of hot chocolate, tea, coffee, milk, juice, or just water it doesn't matter.”

“But Lord Sigmund--”

“He doesn't have to know,” I cut her off, “I promise I won't tell him. And if you keep your mouth shut, you won't get into trouble.”

“But...” she trailed off.

“Please...!” I pleaded, “I'm so thirsty. Don't you want to give this poor girl some water, Lupita?”

Lupita ran her hands through her hair frustratedly. “Alright. I'll see what I can get you. Why don't you take a shower now?”

I hugged her happily. “Thank you Lupita. You're so kind.”

Hesitantly, she hugged me back and patted my back gently.

After a few moment, I detached our embrace.

“I'll be right back,” Lupita said and I nodded.

She got out of the room and locked the door after her.

After Lupita left, I entered the bathroom and took a quick shower. Then I walked into the walk-in closet and picked the simplest dress I could find in this wardrobe. I wore it quickly and lastly returned to my bedroom.

Several minutes later, Lupita came back with a cup on a silver tray.

“I'm sorry, Rosanne. All I could get for you is tea,” she said while giving me the cup of tea.

“It's okay Lupita. It's enough for me,” I said with a smile.

I perched on the edge of the bed and took a few sips of my tea carefully. My stomach wasn't satisfied, but at least it wasn't empty now. When all of it was gone, I handed the cup back to Lupita.

“Thanks again, Lupita,” I said gratefully.

“No problem,” she responded. “I have to go now before someone sees me giving you this tea.”

“Okay.” I nodded my head.

Lupita rushed out of my bedroom and locked the door again.
