Recap:
When we reached the ground floor, unexpectedly, Sigmund stood at the front door, blocking our way.
"Oh no!" I thought, panicked.

"Where are you going, Princess?" Sigmund asked me fiercely.
"I am going to the city with Prince Maximilian," I replied.
"I'll come with you," he insisted.
"No, you can't," Prince Maximilian said firmly.
"Yes, I can," Sigmund retorted, "I'm in charge of the princess. She's not going anywhere without me."
"You're just her bodyguard, meanwhile, I'm her future husband. I'm free to go anywhere with her and you can't stop us."
"Who says I forbid you to go with her? You may take Princess Mirabelle out, but I must come with you."
"You don't have to follow us because we already have Jasper who can protect us."
"I don't believe that he can guarantee Princess Mirabelle's safety." Sigmund pointed at Jasper.
Jasper snorted in annoyance, but he said nothing. Maybe he didn't want to involve in those men's dispute.
"Jasper is the best guard I've ever known," Maximilian stood up for Jasper, "Even he's much better than you."
Sigmund clenched his fists in anger. "You--"
"Stop fighting, you two!" I screamed, interrupting Sigmund.
"He started it!" Sigmund accused Maximilian.
"What?! No, he started it!" Prince Maximilian pointed to Sigmund.
"Stop it, both of you! Why do you keep fighting like kids? You guys just give me a headache," I complained.
My complaint successfully shut them up.
We all didn't say anything for a moment until Maximilian decided to break the silence.
"I don't want to argue with you anymore, Sigmund. Now, let Rosanne decide it!" he said.
Sigmund furrowed his brows. "Rosanne?"
"I mean, Princess Mirabelle," he corrected.
"You can say that again," Sigmund agreed.
"So what do you say, Princess?" Prince Maximilian asked me.
"If it were up to me, I would rather go without Sigmund," I replied honestly.
"What?" Sigmund's jaw dropped.
"You heard her!" Maximilian mocked him.
"King Bellamy has given me a strict order to protect you, Princess. Wherever you go, I must come with you, or you're not going anywhere," he said firmly.
"If it's about the king, you don't have to worry, Sigmund. I will ask for his permission to go out without you," I said.
Before either of them could respond, I already ran off.
"Princess!" Those two men shouted after me at the same time.
I ignored them and kept running to meet the vampire king. But the problem was I didn't know where he was right now.
"Maybe I should ask someone," I thought.
"Excuse me. Do you know where my grandfather- I mean King Bellamy is?" I asked a passing guard.
"His Majesty is at his study, Your Highness," he answered.
"Could you please escort me there?" I requested, "Because I don't know where his study is."
"Sure, Your Highness. This way please!"
The guard finally led me to King Bellamy's study.
"Thanks. You may leave now," I told the guard after we reached there.
He bowed his head and then walked away.
I was about to knock on the door, but suddenly what Prince Maximilian said a few minutes ago flitted through my mind, "You don't know what the king's capable of doing. He never tolerates any mistake. And he won't hesitate to kill anyone who dares to betray him. Do you want Jasper to die because of you?"
I gulped. "Will the king punish me if I ask for his permission to go out without Sigmund? Because it means I disobey him."
I pushed the thought aside. "You never know before you try it, Rosanne," I told myself.
Hesitantly, I knocked on the door. But I didn't get an answer.
I knocked again and said, "Grandpa, this is Ros- I mean Mirabelle. May I come in?"
"Come in!" he ordered from the other side of the door.
I exhaled a deep breath and finally pushed the door open.
