Chapter 63
"What have I done?" I ran my hands through my hair frustratedly.
The thought of me being sacrificed by my own grandfather made me get paranoid. It upset me that King Bellamy refused to delay my wedding with Prince Maximilian. What made me even more frustrated was that Maximilian also failed to convince the vampire king to put off our wedding. All the feelings bubbled up inside me made me lost control of my emotions. Until involuntary I vent up my anger on Maximilian. But after Maximilian left, I finally regretted what I have done.
"I shouldn't have gotten angry with Maximilian," I thought, "He's probably the only ticket for me to get out of here. And I don't want to lose it."
Once again, I ran my fingers through my hair. "What shall I do now? What shall I do now?" I chanted in my head while pacing up and down around my bedroom.
I was grateful Sigmund decided to wait outside after Maximilian left my room, so or else he would start complaining about my antics again.
After thinking carefully for a long time, I eventually came up with an idea.
"I think I have to apologize to Maximilian now. After that, I will ask him to take me to the city so that I can plan my escape. The sooner I get away from here the better."
Without wasting time, I made for the door and opened it. Sticking my head out, I said, "Sigmund, can you take me to Prince Maximilian now?"
"You have just kicked him out of your room, right? Why do you want to meet him again now?" he mocked me.
"I just want to apologize to him, okay?" I said, annoyed.
"Fine. I'll take you to him. Follow me!"
Sigmund started walking and I went after him. Much to my annoyance, the guards followed closely behind us.
I came closer to Maximilian and stood on tiptoes so that I could whisper to his ear. "Do they have to follow us around like this?"
"Of course!" Sigmund replied, "The guards are here to guarantee your safety."
I rolled my eyes at him. "They are here to guarantee my safety or to make sure I can't escape?" I grumbled inwardly.
As soon as we arrived in front of Maximilian's bedroom, I knocked on the door.
"Maxim, it's me Rosanne. Please open the door!"
A moment later, Maximilian finally opened the door. I thought he would be upset with me after I kicked him out of my room. But to my relief, he looked happy to see me.
"Rosanne?" He beamed.
"Um Maxim, can we talk for a moment?" I asked.
"Sure," he answered, "Come in!"
Maximilian stepped aside to let me enter his bedroom.
Sigmund was about to walk in too, but I held him back. "No Sigmund, you wait outside! I want to speak with Prince Maximilian privately."
"You heard him!" Maximilian sneered.
"If you want to speak with Maximilian in private, why is his bodyguard still here?" Sigmund protested, jerking his head towards Jasper who sitting on the sofa by the window.
Jasper rose to his feet, holding both of his hands up. "Relax, Man! I'm going to leave now."
Shortly after Jasper walked out of the room, Maximilian shut the door.
"So what do you want to talk about, Rosanne?" Maximilian queried curiously.
"Maxim, I want to apologize to you," I said.
"Apologize? For what?" he asked.
"For what I have said to you when you came to my bedroom," I replied.
He nodded his head in understanding.
"I shouldn't have scolded you and kicked you out of my room like that. I know It's not your fault that King Bellamy refused to postpone our wedding. My grandfather is as stubborn as a mule. So I should have known that he can't be convinced to change his mind easily."
Maximilian held my hand gently. "It's okay, Rosanne. I'm not angry with you. I understand what you're feeling. I know you're too young, so you're not ready for this wedding yet. However, since nothing we can do to prevent it, let's just go with the flow, okay?"
I nodded my head and then gave him a hug. "Thank you, Maxim."
Prince Maximilian hugged me back. "You're very welcome, Dear."
Once we pulled away, I inquired, "Maxim, can you take me to the city tonight?"
Maximilian frowned. "Why do you suddenly want to go to the city?"
"I just want to go around the city. Let's regard it as our last date before we get married!" I replied with a wink.
"No, Rosanne. I think it's not a good idea," Maximilian said.
"Please Maxim! I really want to go. Please!" I beseeched.
Before Prince Maximilian could give me a response, all of a sudden, Sigmund barged into the room.
"No, you can't go," he said firmly. It's no doubt that Sigmund had eavesdropped our conversation.
Jasper rushed into the room after him. He tried to drag Sigmund out of the room, but he wouldn't budge.
"Yes, we can go. And you can't stop us, Sigmund," I retorted.
"Look, Princess! The werewolves are still lurking around out there. So it is very dangerous for you to leave the palace now," Sigmund said.
"I hate to admit it. But Sigmund is right," Maximilian agreed. "I don't want something bad happen to you, Rosanne. That's why we can't go tonight."
"Nothing will happen to me because you and Jasper are going to be there to protect me. Even Sigmund can go with us too to make sure my safety. So please Maxim, take me to the city tonight!" I pleaded.
"NO!" Prince Maximilian and Sigmund said at the same time.
I knew I didn't like when Sigmund and Maximilian kept quarreling all the time. But on second thought, I hated more when both of them were conspiring against me.
Knowing I could never be able to persuade Sigmund and Maximilian to take me to the city, I eventually tried the plan B.
"Okay, because you don't want to take me to the city, can you give me a tour of this palace instead?" I requested.
Maximilian looked surprised with my request. "So you want to look around the palace?"
I nodded. "I haven't had time to look around this palace since I came here, so I want you to show me around the palace now."
Sigmund said, "No--"
"Jasper," Maximilian cut Sigmund off.
Jasper nodded in understanding. He put his hand on Sigmund's shoulder, and in the blink of an eye, they both disappeared into thin air.
Maximilian held out his hand to me. "Let's go, shall we?"
I took his hand. "Okay, let's go!"
