I was woken by the sound of the cell door being open.
"Get up, Princess!" I heard someone say.
I lifted my head and saw Sigmund standing in the doorway.
"What are you doing here?" I queried as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes.
"I'm here to pick you up," he replied.
"Pick me up?" I asked in surprise.
"Yes." He gave me a curt nod.
I narrowed my eyes suspiciously. "But why do you suddenly want to let me out?"
"So you don't want to get out of here?" He was about to shut the cell door, but quick as a flash , I sprang to my feet and prevented him to close it.
"No, no, no. I really want to get out of this dungeon. But..." I trailed off.
"But what?" He sounded irritated.
"I thought King Bellamy intended to lock me up here longer," I replied honestly.
"He's not that cruel, you know. His Majesty just wanted you to spend the night in the dungeon to teach you a lesson," he said.
"And what is the lesson? I don't see the point of locking me up in the dungeon," I grumbled.
"Watch your mouth! If the king heard what you just said, you would be in a great trouble," he warned me.
"Yeah, yeah," I said while rolling my eyes.
Sigmund glared at me.
"Can we just leave now? It's really cold down here." I wrapped my arms around myself to make it look as if I was really cold, when in fact, I just tried to change the subject so that Sigmund wouldn't be angry with me.
Sigmund stepped aside to let me exit the cell. After that, he shut the cell door and started to walk, expecting me to follow him.
I went after him silently. We then climbed up the stairs. Sigmund unlocked the metal door on the top of the stairs. Once we were out of the dungeon, Sigmund took my arm and pulled me along.
"Get off me! I can walk by myself, you know," I protested.
"No!" he refused strictly, "If I let you go, I know you will try to run again."
"That's ridiculous! How can I run away when you're beside me? Now let go!" I tried to shake him off. But Sigmund tightened his grip on my arm, and I could feel the bruises begin to form.
"Ouch! It hurts, Sigmund. Please let me go!" I whimpered.
Sigmund didn't let go of my arm, but he loosened his grip so that I wouldn't feel the pain anymore.
We strolled to my bedroom in utter silence. Once we reached there, one of the guards stationed in front of my room opened the door for us and we stepped in.
Sigmund had me sit on the bed while he stood facing me.
"King Bellamy ordered that you're not allowed to step out of your bedroom until your wedding day," Sigmund stated.
"What?! That's not fair!" I complained.
Ignoring me, Sigmund continued, "And you're also not allowed to see Prince Maximilian."
"Why can't I meet my own fiancé?" I asked in annoyance.
It's not that I wanted to meet Maximilian. But Prince Maximilian was my only ticket to get out of here. If I couldn't see him, how would I run away?
"We know you'll ask Maximilian to help you escape. Since that spoiled prince is easily persuaded, you can't meet him until your wedding day, so that you won't ruin everything that has been planned," he elaborated.
"Shit! How in the world do they figure out that I'm planning to ask Maximilian's help? Now, it's getting more difficult for me escape," I grumbled in my mind.
"You'd better take a shower now. After that, I'll have a maid bring you food. And then, you can take some rest," Sigmund said.
Before I could give a reply, Sigmund already walked out of my bedroom and shut the door after him.
