Ian had invited Ben over to his house after school. Neither of them had bothered to tell their parents. Ian's single mother had always been okay with friends coming over and Ben's parents didn't care if he was gone a little longer. One time, Ben had even spent a week at a friend's house without them knowing and when he came home they didn't quite seem like they missed him. If anything, they seemed disappointed that he returned.

When the two got to Ian's house, they went straight up the stairs to Ian's room. What they hadn't expected was for Ian's mother to come up and ask to speak to her son. Ian excused himself from the room and followed his mom back downstairs to the living room. What the two didn't notice was that a very curious Ben had snuck out of Ian's room and quietly made his way down the hallway and a few stairs, just far enough that he could eavesdrop on their conversation.

Ian's mom sat him down on the couch and began speaking to him. "Ian, Sweetie, you know that I support you in everything you do. You're a smart young man and I'm very proud of that but, are you sure you want to be friends with Ben?"

A confused look crossed said boy's face.

"What do you mean?" Ian was confused by the question; he saw no reason for his mom to disapprove of his friend.

"I mean, I never expected you to ever be friends with someone like him."

"What... what do you have against Ben?" Ian's voice showed a level of defensiveness for the other teen.

"It's just, you're highly intelligent and he's... well he's basically the opposite. I don't want you getting so close to someone who will use you."

Ben flinched from his spot on the stairs. Sure he wan't meant to hear the words but, they still hurt.

"Use me?" Disbelief and shock at what his mother said dripped from his voice.

"You know, I don't want you getting stuck in the whole the 'dumb kid befriends the smart kid and gets him to do all his work for him' thing. I just don't want Ben taking advantage of you."

"Ben would never do that to me... or anyone for that matter." Ian's voice was even more defensive now and a hint of budding anger could even be heard.

"Well, you never know what kind of person someone really is before it's too late. Plus I saw that bracelet of his when you two walked in. All rainbowy with the word 'pride' written on it. He's gay, isn't he?"

Ben self-consciously covered his the bracelet on his left wrist with his right hand.

"Yeah, he is but that doesn't matter here. I know what kind of person he is and he would never 'use' me." Ian was on the verge of shouting now.

"But," a sigh, "Either way, I don't think it's a good idea for you to hangout with him. He's just going to hold you back."

"How exactly would he do that." It was getting real hard to not yell.

"Like I said, he's dumb and-"

Ian couldn't take it any longer, he cut his mother off and let his anger take over. "Stop saying that! Stop calling Ben 'dumb'! Say whatever you want about me but, don't you dare say anything about Ben! You... you don't know him! You don't know him at all! Sure, he isn't the most book smart guy around but, he's smart in other ways. He can speak two languages fluently and... and he's funny and nice and loves to cheer up other people and..." Should I say it? "And..." Screw it, it's worth a shot, "And I love him okay!?"

Ben froze. Ian... loved him? His hot tutor that always made his heart flutter when their hands 'accidentally' touched... loved him? Of course, Ben had fallen in love with him quite quickly and, now, couldn't help but to not believe what he had heard. Heart pounding against his chest and cheeks warm with blush, he forced himself to listen in on more of the conversation.

"L-love?" His mother sounded shocked.

"Yeah, love. I've loved him since the day he transferred to my school and it's only gotten stronger the more I tutored and hung out with him. And I don't care what you think."

"You... love him?" Disbelief dripped from her voice.

"You know that I'm bi. Why is this such a big shock to you?"

"I always... I always thought you'd grow out of it. Or, at least, end up with a nice girlfriend."

"What do you have against us loving boys? You mentioned Ben being gay earlier like it was a bad thing. I always thought you supported me."

"Well-"

"You know what, I'm done arguing. I'm going back upstairs and hanging out with Ben. Like it or not, I still like him."

Frustrated, Ian ran back up the stairs to get away from the argument. Though, he caught Ben trying to sneak back into the bedroom. Curious as to why his friend had been out of the room, Ian called out to him. "Ben?"

Looking back, Ben froze in place. His face showed a sense of fear of being caught. He pressed his back against the wall and guiltily looked at the ground.

"Did you... hear any of that?" Ian didn't know what he wanted the answer to be.

"Y-Yeah..." Ben fidgeted with his hands.

"How... much of it?"

"Err... all of it?"

"All of... Th-then you heard me say that..." Ian trailed off and looked at the ground to hide his blush.

"That you... l-love me?"

"Yeah..."

An awkward silence fell over them and Ben spoke to break it, "I... love you too."

"Wha-" Ian looked up and Ben hesitantly copied the action.

"I... love you, too, Ian." A small nervous smile spread across his face.

Ian couldn't help but to smile back as heart melted at the sight of Ben's red cheeks and adorable smile. He gave into a sudden urge and pulled the smaller into a hug. Pulling away from the embrace, Ian looked down into emerald eyes. They were so innocent and full of love that Ian could feel his heart melt again.

Temptation too hard to resist, the taller leaned down and softly pressed a kiss to Ben's lips. The other hesitantly kissed back and, as the kiss broke, looked up with even wider green eyes. His blush darkened and he stutter out, "S-sorry."

"What for?" Ben could feel Ian's breath against his lips as the taller spoke.

"I... I made it awkward. I've never k-kissed someone before." He turned his head to the side, too embarassed to make eye contact. Though, Ian had other ideas and gently turned Ben's head back to where it was before whispering against his lips.

"You didn't make anything awkward," Ben felt Ian's smirk, "And I'll make sure you get lots of practice with kissing." With that said, Ian pressed his lips to Ben's.

This time when they pulled away, Ian smiled down at Ben and let out a small laugh. Ben smiled at the sound and, soon, was giggling too.

What neither of them noticed was that Ian's mother had followed him up the stairs and had seen their awkward yet loving moment. Of course, she had been taken aback the first time their lips met but, soon found a small smile spreading across her face. They seemed so... happy together. Maybe... maybe Ian was right. Maybe him and Ben would be good together, after all.
