A Broken Night

Megan and I both went over to Megan's house to get ready for tonight's dance. We both got our dresses over two weeks ago and could not wait for this day to come.

I got changed into my sparkly turquoise dress while Megan got changed into her bright purple dress.

"Megan, I am lost for words at how beautiful you look in that dress," I truthfully told Megan. Every boy at the dance will be staring at her while I'll be standing in her shadow. I just want to be noticed too, that's all.

"You look amazing too. I wish I bought your dress instead of my ugly one," said Megan as she pointed down at her dress.

"Don't say that Megan because you are the only person in the whole world that could rock that dress," I spoke to Megan complimenting her.

We walked over to Megan's bathroom to do our hair and makeup. I pulled my hair into a side fishtail braid. I was quite proud of myself since tonight was the first time I could successfully do it.

"Cassidy could you do my hair?" Megan asked.

"Of course," I said smiling.

I pulled Megan's chestnut colored hair into a French braid which looked fantastic on the back of her head.

"Thank you, now should I do your makeup?" Megan asked me. She is a makeup guru because let's just say, she is amazing at it.

Megan added a pink touch to my lips, a nice calm pale blue eye shadow above my eyes and just enough pink blush on top of my cheeks.

"Cassidy, can I just say you look gorgeous," Megan said while grabbing a mirror so that I can confirm this statement of hers.

"Wow," was all that came out of my mouth, Megan was completely correct. "I'll just go back to your room and finish getting ready while you do your makeup," I told Megan.

"Ok," Megan responded.

It was another 8 minutes until Megan walked into her room with her makeup all done. We both put on our shoes and we were ready for the dance.

"Mom, can you drive us to the dance?" Megan asked her mom when we walked into their living room.

"What do you say?" Megan's mom asked her.

"Fine, please?" Megan asked with a fake smile plastered on her face.

"Ok," Megan's mom said clearly found of Megan's use of manners.

Megan and I listened to our favorite music group, One Direction in the car all the way to the school. When we arrived, we both hopped out of the car and trotted over to the entrance of the school. The 8th grade dance is being held in the gym where we will still smell the stench from today's gym classes, just disgusting.

We both noticed all the other girl's dresses when we walked into the gym.

"Did every girl other than us buy their dress straight from a high end fashion designer?" Megan quietly asked me.

"I'm pretty sure," I responded also quietly.

Megan and I walked over to the middle of the dance floor and started to dance our butts off. We were having a funniest dance competition just the two of us. We didn't care if anyone made fun of us since this was going to be the last night that they would see us. In the end I ended up winning the competition. Go Cassie, go Cassie was what I was singing in my head just for fun.

Before we knew it a slow song came on. We started to walk away from the dance floor and to the snack table when I noticed a figure walking towards us. I poked at Megan to inform her to turn around where low and behold, there was Brandon walking straight towards us. Here comes the butterflies again. I began to smile to show that I am up to flirt with him. Only a few feet ahead of us Brandon turned towards Brooke. Why did he just do that? I then realized that he asked Brooke to dance with him instead of me, my heart just shattered into pieces. I ran over to the snack table and slumped down into one of the seats. I didn't even realize that Megan came over to sit next to me.

"Are you ok?" Megan asked me.

"No, my heart just broke. Why did I even assume that he was going to ask me, the loser, to dance with him?" I said while tears started to run down my face.

"Brandon is a jerk to not realize how amazing of a person you are. Don't worry though, some guy in the future will find you irresistible," Megan said trying to comfort me.

"In a million years," I said clearly disappointed about the whole Brandon thing.

"That's not true," Megan said.

"Well that's what I believe," I told her.

"I have an idea to cheer up your broken soul," Megan said.

"What?" I said giving her a saddened face.

"After this dance, we can go to an ice cream shop and enjoy some ice cream," Megan said with an enthusiastic smile on her face.

"I guess that will work," I said while shrugging my shoulders.

"It will work," Megan said confidently.

After the slow song Megan and I walked back onto the dance floor and enjoyed the rest of the dance. Some of my favorite songs came on during the rest of the dance, they included "Counting Stars", "What Makes You Beautiful", and "She Looks So Perfect". These songs definitely helped me become happier again.

Like Megan promised, we went over to an ice cream shop after the dance. We sat together at a booth while enjoying our ice cream cones. I got a cookie dough cone which would probably have to be one of my all time favorites. It is the perfect amount of cookie dough and sweet, sweet vanilla ice cream.

At the ice cream shop, Megan and I continued to reminisce about old stories about our classmates until Megan's mom told us it was time to go.

I was dropped off at my house and I could barely walk up to my bedroom. I wasted all of my energy at the dance tonight but I am not complaining. I was so tired that I almost forgot to change into pajamas. I fell straight into a deep sleep once my body touched my bed.
