First Day in the Jungle

I spent the rest of the summer in my room. Some days were bad and others were worse. Some days I wanted to cry my eyes out and some days I wanted to kill myself.

My mom and James periodically checked on me by knocking on my door. I would answer with a little squeak of a,"Yes?" Then they would tell me that there was food outside of my door. Or even worse, they would tell me some breaking news in the case with my dad being the killer of Megan.

I absolutely despised the second scenario. I didn't ever want to hear another single word regarding my father after I learned that he killed Megan. I never want to forgive him. He doesn't deserves any forgiveness after cheating on my mom, leaving me in the dust and killing my best friend.

However, there was one case of good news that my mom brought me. She told me that my dad was going to be brought to court to be tried later in the year. She also said that I wouldn't have to go if I didn't want to. Even if she said that I would have to go, I still wouldn't. I never want to see that despicable criminal ever again.

Since the summer was over, the time had come for me to enter the jungle called high school. Now that Megan is dead, I have to go alone. However, my mom told my brother, James, that he would have to look out for me. I know he won't because he'll be too busy socializing with his friends.

"Cassidy you have to wake up now," my mom spoke softly in my ear to wake me up. She was kneeling right next to my bed.

"I don't want to," I rolled over so that my face wasn't facing her.

"You have to though, it is your first day of high school," she sounded sort of excited.

"That's why I'm not getting up," I brought the covers over my head to shield myself from the rest of the world.

"If  you get up now, then you'll get ice cream tonight," she tried convincing me. It worked though, I was out of my bed in about a millionth of a second. "I knew that would work," she chuckled.

She walked out of my room to give me some privacy. It took me a while to actually get ready for school. I combed my hair and kept it in its normal soft waves. I put on a casual dress to look somewhat nice, and slipped some flats onto my feet.

The rest of the morning before arriving at high school was a blur. I really only remember James teasing me about being a tiny freshman, and him a gigantic junior. He didn't realize how hard this day was going to actually be for me.

Once James and I arrived at Maple Creek High School he parked in a parking space and instantly left me by myself. He went to see his junior friends and I was left to travel the long journey to the front doors of the school building alone.

All around me were cars parking with teen drivers inside of them. There were also other high school students around me walking towards the school doors . They were mostly other girls that looked like they were definitely not freshman. They were also dressed very pristine with all floral print dresses. I guess I wasn't the only one that wore a dress, that's a good sign.

I opened the front doors of the school to find a bunch of high school students roaming the halls. They were all trying to find their first class of the day. I still haven't reached my locker, yet alone find my first class of the day.

When I finally reached my locker, there was another person next to my locker, with theirs open. They seemed about my age with electric black hair flowing out of their scalp and they had fair skin, but not as light as mine. I didn't want to talk to them though, just in case that they weren't a freshman.

I put all of my binders except for my math binder in my new locker. I didn't put the math binder in my locker since I had math first hour. As I was doing so, the person with the locker next to me struck up a conversation with me.

"Are you a freshman too?" She asked. I breathed a sigh of a relief after realizing that she was also a freshman.

"Yeah," I continued to put my binders in my locker.

"Me too, so what class do you have first?" She curiously asked.

"I have math, how about you?" I finished putting my binders into my locker.

"I actually have science with Mrs. Reed, but I have math third hour," she said while closing her locker.

"Cool, I have science fourth hour," I said.

"I'm Hallie Ellis," she announced her name to me.

"I'm Cassidy Daniels," I said. "It was nice to meet you, I hope that your in some of my classes."

"Me too, see you later," she said.

"See you later," I repeated as we parted our ways.

Math wasn't all that interesting. The only real thing that I learned was that my teacher's name is Mr. Hart. This was the same for really all of my other classes. The only really exciting thing that happened was that Hallie happened to be in my French and study hall. Now we can work on homework together.

However, the school day got kind of bad during lunch. Hallie and I were waiting in the cafeteria line with full lunch trays in our hands. Suddenly, this one girl barged through the line while skipping both Hallie and I. I got sort of frustrated.

"Um, excuse me, but we were all here first," I politely said as I lightly tapped on the girl's shoulder.

"Oh, I didn't notice that you were here, you're all so small freshman that you aren't even noticeable. Since I'm a senior, you have to obey my rules," she snottily said.

"Oh, sorry," I quietly conformed to her standards since she was a senior, and I don't like seniors one bit.

That was my worst encounter of the whole day, but it got a little better after that. During my walk from math to history, I accidentally ran into someone when I was staring at my class schedule. It sounds bad that I ran into someone, but it actually wasn't bad at all.

"I am so sorry," I said as I was picking up my binders off of the floor.

"It's ok," the guy that I ran into instantly forgave me. He actually was helping me pick up all of my binders. "Are you a freshman?"

"Is it that obvious?" I asked nervously.

"Kind of, I was also nervous my first day of high school," he handed back the rest of my binders.

"Well, thank you for helping me," I said as I noticed his deep brown hair swaying across his forehead. He also had those same deep brown eyes as my brother, they almost looked the same.

"No problem, by the way, I'm Blake," he said.

"I'm Cassidy," I said while smiling shyly.

"I hope I see you soon Cassidy," he spoke while looking directly into my eyes.

"I hope so too," I said as I passed him on my way to my history class. I instantly knew that my cheeks started to blush, and they woudn't stop.

Once I got home with James, my mom asked me a ton of questions.

"How was the first day?" "Who did you meet?" "Who are your teachers?" "Did James help you?" "Did you make any new friends?"

"It was a pretty good day, I became friends with this girl named Hallie Ellis. She is also a freshman and she is in my French and study hall classes. I also ran into this one guy named Blake, he seemed sort of nice, I don't think he is a freshman though. Do you know him James?" I asked him.

"No, he must be new," he answered as he was leaving the front hallway.

Once he left I told my mom that James didn't help me at all today. I feel that he deserved the punishment of giving my mom a massage that night. He also had to do the chore of making my mom and I ice cream sundaes. The best part was that he didn't get any ice cream to eat. That's what he gets for being a jerk today.
