I started to slow down for Megan after about 5 minutes into the ride back.

"I thought that I might be a little bit more nice this time around," I spoke looking over my shoulder at Megan who is now currently catching up to me.

"Well thank you," Megan said when she came up on my left side.

"But...," I started to say.

"I knew there was a catch," Megan interrupted me.

"I was trying to say that we should have a little race from here to my house," I got to finish what I wanted to say before.

"Ok," Megan said while holding out her hand to me.

"Ok, it's on," I shook Megan's hand with mine to confirm our competition that we are about to have. I saw a stick resting on the ground a few feet ahead of us. "That stick up there should be the start line and the beginning of my driveway will be the finish line," I pointed ahead to the stick so that Megan could seek it out.

We both wheeled our bikes up to the start line so that we could begin the race. Megan and I both peered into each other's eyes for the last time and then we looked straight ahead.

I started the countdown,"3...2...1!"

I pushed as hard as I could on the bike pedals to try to get ahead of Megan right away. I tried my hardest to get ahead of Megan but I just couldn't. I guess this is Megan telling me to not underestimate her when it comes to bike riding, or should I say racing.

After a while Megan decided to look over her shoulder to see how far back I am. At the same exact moment a poorly driven car was heading straight for us. The car directly hit Megan right as she was turning her head forward again. I could slightly hear a gasp come out from her at the last second before the rusty old car rammed into her. Megan and her bike were pushed back coming closer towards me. I couldn't move, I was to paralyzed with fear. Then the car immediately stopped in its tracks.

"Megan!" I screamed my head off dropping my bike on the ground and running towards Megan's  broken body. The driver of the car jumped out of the car and walked over to the front of his car where Megan and her bike just laid on the ground. I guess he doesn't even realize that he has just horribly hurt a poor, innocent girl. The driver saw me coming out of the corner of his eye and hopped back into his truck. He drove off into the dark night where I couldn't see him anymore.

I reached Megan and knelt right next to her running my hands over all her cuts and then I noticed something. A huge gash was cut on her neck where tons of her blood was flowing out of her.

"No, this shouldn't have happened if it wasn't for me!" I screamed looking up at the purple night sky. I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and I could barely even call 911. I held the phone up to my ear when the receiver asked,"This is 911, what is your emergency?"

"My best friend was just hit by an oncoming truck while she was riding her bike," I cried out hoping that the lady on the other end could understand me.

"Is there any serious injuries that are currently visible," she calmly spoke.

"There is a huge gash on her neck," I continued to cry my heart out.

"Ok, where are you currently," the lady spoke.

"We are next to Blossom Lake on 110th street," I tried to calmly speak but failed to do so.

"Ok, an ambulance will be on the way," she finally said before she hung up on my frightened feelings leaving me listening to the crickets chirp.

"You'll be ok Megan, I promise," I whispered into her right ear. When I was bent down next to her ear I noticed that her chest was rising up and down. Ok, she is still breathing and that is a good sign.
