Megan's parents came running over towards me with terrified looks on their faces. They both have chestnut hair and green eyes just like Megan. Whenever I look at them, they remind me of Megan every time. Even if someone didn't know who they were, if Megan was in the same room, then anyone can tell that they are her parents.
Megan's mom was the first to speak to the lady,"Ma'am, how is Megan doing? Is it serious?"
"It is serious, but I assure you that Megan is likely to survive," the lady put her hand on Mrs. Johnson's shoulder. Right away both of Megan's parents did a sigh of relief.
Megan's mom knelt down in front of me and asked,"How are you holding up Cassidy?"
"I guess I'm fine now, but not fully," I spoke looking into her green eyes.
"That's ok, I don't blame you. I'm still not capable of understanding this whole situation. It feels unreal to me," she said to me. We both smiled at each other unaware that my mom just ran into the hospital. How am I not surprised that James did not come. He could care less about Megan.
My mom gave comforting hugs to both of Megan's parents and then she came over to me.
"I love you so much," she said before pulling me into a hug. She hugged the life out of me. I could tell that she was glad that I'm not the one hurt, even though I believe that I should be the one in the hospital bed with a 65% chance of survival.
"I love you too mom," I responded back while we ended the hug.
"Are you Megan's parents?" The lady next to us pointed to both of the Johnson's. They nodded for confirmation and followed the lady down the busy hall. That only left my mom and I.
"I'm so glad that you're safe,"my mom said.
"I could tell by the way you hugged me," I brushed back a few strands of my hair away from my face.
"So how is Megan holding up?" She asked me.
"The lady that just led Megan's parents down the hall told me that Megan has internal bleeding in her brain. Also she has a 65% chance of surviving her injuries," I still could not hold back a couple of tears while I spoke.
"Poor girl, at least she has higher than a 50% chance of surviving," she sat down into the chair next to me.
It was another 20 minutes of quietly waiting before Megan's parents came out to us again. They started talking about how Megan is still unconscious and that's when I started to drift off into my own mind and not even pay attention to the conversation.
What if Megan never wakes up? What if I lose my best friend forever? What if I go to high school alone? What if I never make friends again? What if I become depressed? What if I fail high school and work at a fast food restaurant for the rest of my life? That's when I freaked out at myself.
"Stop asking the what if's Cassidy!" I screamed at myself before I realized that I wasn't alone. My mom, Megan's parents and the rest of the people in the waiting room stared at me with confusion on their faces. They're probably asking themselves why this weird girl is in the waiting room and not in a hospital room.
"Cassidy are you alright?" My mom was startled by my screaming. She almost screamed herself by being frightened.
"I think so, I just psyched myself out," I said looking at the ground embarrassed at what I just did.
"Maybe it would be best if you saw Megan," Megan's father suggested. This was the first time that he actually spoke to me tonight. Odd because he usually treats me like his second daughter.
"Ok," I said walking away from them and down the once again busy hall. It was filled with doctors, nurses and injured people in gurneys being raced down the halls. I also happened to notice a man with his wife who was in labor. Once I reached Megan's room on the second floor I instantly opened the door to come face to face with a beautiful nurse. On a name badge it read Terri Hale. I hope to become as gorgeous as her one day and have a great job. I actually want to become a veterinarian when I grow up. I've always had a love for animals, but the only animal that I have had in my house has been a goldfish. It died after 2 days of living in a super small fish tank. That goldfish should't have expected much from a 5 year old.
