Soon, nighttime came as darkness fell over Propwash Junction. Having been comforted earlier by her adopted mother, Creech was at this moment sitting in the bedroom in her rocking chair, which was close to the window, reading her Bible, which she always did whenever she wanted to look for any good advice. She was in the middle of reading the book of Matthew when she stumbled upon chapter ten verse thirty-nine, which said: "Whoever saves his life for his sake will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it."
Creech was confused. "What's that supposed to mean?" she asked herself.
At that, a knock sounded at her door. "Who is it?" she asked.
"Mind if I come in?" said a familiar voice. "I won't if you don't want me to."
"Come in, Shenzi," said Creech.
The door opened, and Shenzi poked her head in the room before entering. "You feeling okay?" she asked. "I'm only asking because your mother told me how you were feeling when your father told me what happened. It sounded like you really took it hard."
"I just wouldn't believe it," Creech said after a while of silence. "We've been racing for three years, and it sounded like we weren't ready to give up racing just yet. Do you know why it happened though?"
Before Shenzi could answer, a loud explosion sounded out, starling them. Then, a loud voice shouted, "FIRE! FIRE!! SOMEBODY GET SOME HELP!!!"
"What the heck-?!" Creech exclaimed.
"That don't sound good," Shenzi commented.
When they both hurried outside, nothing could describe their shock and surprise as they saw the Fill 'n' Fly being engulfed in flames. Creech hurried over to Dusty, who had gotten blown back into a pole and knocked out. Pocahontas was beside him, shaking him desprately to try and wake him up. "Guys! What the hay is going on?!" Creech exclaimed.
"Uh..." said Kopa nervously, "...it was Kovu's idea!" he said suddenly, pointing to Kovu.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, what?" Kovu asked, surprised.
"Coming through!" another voice rang out as a person in a red and black firefighting suit came running out to the scene, carrying a hose. He was none other than Propwash Junction's local firefighter, Mayday. Once he arrived, he braked to a complete halt. "Now listen up! We gotta cool this down before it spreads!"
Quickly, Sparky got the end of the house over to the nearest fire hydrant and Dottie quickly turned it on. At first, everything seemed fine as Mayday aimed his hose at the fire, starting to put it out. Then, they ran into a problem-the hose, which was very old, started to sprout leaks. Confused and then desperate, Sparky tried to cover each of them up, but the pressure built up so much, it ended up shooting him straight over to Chug. "I got ya," Chug said, catching him.
"Phew. Thanks," said Sparky gratefully.
By now, Dusty had woken up and was now coming over to them while being supported by Pocahontas and Cinderella. By then, the water flow from the hose was getting weaker and weaker until there was nothing but a sad little drip at the end of it. When Mayday looked into the mouth of the hose-DRIP! A lone drop leaked out, hitting his glasses. This hose was definitely not going to put out this fire. "Now what?" Chug asked.
The fuel guy had a point. Mayday had to come with a new plan fast. Dropping his hose, he looked around until his eyes landed on the water tower-just as Creech and Shenzi raced over to the scene. "Is there anything me and Creech can do to help?" Shenzi asked.
"There is," said Mayday, "but I'm gonna need some help." Quickly, he told everyone the plan.
Soon, Mayday, Skipper, Chug, and Dusty were all positioned in front of the water tower. While Dottie and Sparky loosened the tower supports a little, Creech and Shenzi threw strong cables around them. Once Kovu gave the signal with a roar, all four of them started to pull hard. Standing off to the side, Shenzi could see that Junior was troubled, but before she got the chance to ask, the tower began to moan and groan as it started to lean over. Finally, as if it couldn't take it anymore, it fell over and collapsed, breaking open like a floodwater dam, putting out the fire while also flooding the workshop.
As everyone caught their breath, an almost-burned-up racing poster floated towards Dusty, stopping at his feet. Now the former crop duster really felt guilty as he felt the dizziness from his sore head, which was now starting to grow a good-sized bump, come back to him almost in full force. Luckily, Skipper managed to hurry over and catch him just as his head was three feet from the ground. He would scold him later on tomorrow.
......................................................................
Over at Dusty's house, while Skipper was keeping an eye on Dusty, who was fast asleep in his bedroom with an ice pack on his head to reduce the bump he had, Creech, Shrnzi, and Junior were over in the living room sitting on the couch, Shenzi sitting on the floor, where Junior was telling them how it all happened: "It just started while we were over at Honker's Sports Bar. We were just taking to Skipper and Mufasa when Chug and Sparky showed up, saying that they've contacted an old friend of theirs who could help them find a gearbox for Dusty. At that moment, Leadbottom came in, wanting us to go back to crop dusting. Instantly, Dusty told us to come with him outside so that we could go flying, even though I tried to tell him that flying at night was pretty dangerous in some cases, but he insisted. While we were doing that, an alarm on this bracelet he now wears started to sound out. To me, it was probably the loudest noise I've ever heard in my life."But I think it distracted is, because by the time we looked up, we were about to crash right into a radio control tower. We managed to dodge it, but Dusty's middle finger ended up clipping it, therfore sending him into a crazy spiral spin. As a result, he ebbed up having a rough landing. But while everyone else landed safely, me and Dusty ended up crashing into one of the gas station's support beams. That would explain how you and Shenzi heard that explosion earlier."
After he finished, he hung his head down, expecting to get a real good scolding, but instead, Creech gently placed a hand on his head. "Well, I'm glad none of you got hurt to badly," she said. "Here's a tip: next time, don't you guys ever pull a stunt like that ever again, alright?"
"We won't," said Junior sincerely. "I promise."
As soon as he said that, another voice rang out in the night. "Guys! Guys! Come quick!"
Confused, Creech and the others ran outside to see Kopa coming towards them with something (or make it someone) getting carried on his back. "Kopa? What's going on? What happened?" Creech asked anxiously.
"Turns out," Kopa said between breathless pants, "Grandfather was there and had both seen and heard the crash from earlier. That steel roof-shaped propeller was about to fall on Junior and a nearby gas pump, but Grandfather ended up throwing Junior out of the way, but didn't have enough time to get out of way himself."
"Kopa-" Creech said, shocked.
"It's true," Kopa concluded before Creech could be finished with her sentence. "He's dying and he hasn't got much long to live." With that, he used his own magic to levetate a crushed, dying Mufasa off of his back and set him down gently on the ground.
Mufasa somehow knew that he was dying. Before that, he opened his eyes and looked at a saddened Creech, who could only say, "Mufasa." in a shaky voice. With a weak smile, somehow also knowing that Junior was safe, the old lion closed his eyes and became still forever.
Creech could hardly believe it. "Mufasa! No!" she cried as she knelt down beside him. Knowing that she'd never wake him up ever again, she buried her face into his mane and sobbed as if her heart would break. Heartbroken, they all mourned for Mufasa as the starts above shone brightly as if they were welcoming him home.
