I heard a pounding on the door, a pounding all to familiar. Knowing it was Toni I just sat there curled up in a ball. Veronica walked over and opened the door, Toni ran in and picked me up. Completely ignoring the girl, she pulled me out of the house and down the hall. Leading me to her car.
Sitting me down on her black car chairs that had a small tint of grey from ware, she closed the door and headed over towards the drivers seat. The car was one of those types that three people could sit in the front. A classic. She climbed into the car and sat down next to me, locking her lips with mine, she then let go and looked me dead in the eyes. Wiping the tears off my face.
"What happened in there?"
"My mother, she's one of them."
Her eyes were still filled with confusion, she looked my face up and down.
"One of what?"
"The Unknowns."
I screeched out. Her mouth dropped open making a popping noise, her eyes huge and she put her arms out wrapping them around me. I just cried in her arms, shaking she grabbed my head and telling me to stay quiet by making a soft noise with her teeth. All the sudden I felt her arm lift up as she reached for the car door, my car door. She pressed the lock knob and I looked out my window. Seeing Archie and Veronica standing there confused. Toni shook her head no, grabbing me and letting me rest on her breasts. I just wrapped my arms around her like a child. I never heard a door open, we sat there for about five minutes when she looked me in the eyes.
"I'm going to bring you back to my place."
She pulled away as I sat up and I just listened the the humming noise of the soft car engine. I did tell her we're I was going and if I didn't text her back that something may have came up. Some how she knew it wasn't good. Making my heart sink with love for her. Watching the trees go by as she pulled up to the trailer park. She left the car so I followed. A gust of wind hit me and she took off her jacket and wrapped it around me from behind. She walked me inside her house, taking me to her bedroom. Setting me down on her bed.
"What do you think started this?"
She said as she took away the jacket and replaced the leather with a soft plush knitted multi color quilt. She hung up her jacket in her small closet. I looked up at her with big eyes and make up smearing down my face. All except for my red lipstick.
"Probably the maple syrup business, as she calls it, but I more think of it as the thing that pulls families apart... Maybe the death of Jason?"
She just nodded along, making me feel heard.
"Why would your mom do such a thing, first making you hate our own home by being something sick as a hooker, and now this. She's one confusing lady."
I groaned and laid flat on her bed.
"Sometimes I wish I was living somewhere else. Like I didn't have to live with her anymore."
"I just wish it could be here, I wish we had space. I just know my grandpa would never let a lover stay in my bed."
That's when I sat up quickly.
"Or would he?"
She looked over at me with confusion and then realized I may have a point. For once someone was taking my ideas and putting them into their heads.
"I guess we could give it a shot, after all the town would really not like someone to live with another that's part of the Unknowns."
I just nodded looking back down. Wondering why she would ever do a thing.
"I'm always going to be here for you."
That's when she kneeled down in front of me, grabbing my face and she kissed me. Leaving a small amount of red on her lips. She didn't seem to mind it. In all honesty I was surprised that she was out of the hospital so quickly, she was highly wounded just earlier that day.
"Wait why are you out of the hospital so early?"
"It turned out to be just a very painful nick. I more fell to the ground out of pure shock."
I smiled.
"I'm glad you're okay. Sorry that I couldn't be there. My mom was being weird again."
She nodded and just put my head back on her shoulder, leaving me to start crying again.
"Please never leave me."
"I won't ever leave you."
She lifted me up and took me out of the room. Walking over to her grandfather as he sat on the couch. She sat down next to him, she tapped his shoulder as he responded slowly.
"What?"
"Can Cheryl stay with us for a few days? Her moms part of the Unknowns."
His eyes went huge and he nodded, then leaning over grabbing the phone. Dialing three numbers, I quickly took the phone. Shaking my head.
"What if she's wrong, I can't lose her. I can't lose my mom too."
Toni stood up and looked at me. Putting her hand on my shoulder.
"We're here for you for the worst, but we can't ignore something like this."
I nodded and handed Toni the phone. Letting her dial the number. Hearing her say.
"Yes 911, I have a possible lead on the recent murder, and kidnapping in Riverdale."
She paused for a small second.
"Yes, I would like to speak to you about the recent news reports."
My mother has indeed stabbed me in the back.
