Chapter One
Clones, Tunnels and an Attempted TakeoverPeople think clones would be great, or sweet, or loving or something.
People are wrong.
"Diana, this is a bad idea. A really, really bad idea. Like, why are you even doing this? This is dumb. You should stop. Like, right now." Clone number one, aka Di, told me. She flipped her/my long, red hair back in annoyance- a quirk I do all the plenty, especially tonight after Di's several previous scoldings.
However, she was just a wispy magic image I conjured up for some companionship at the moment.
"Di, you're a clone; not my subconscious. You can't tell me this is a horrible plan or unethical, or whatever it is you try and do. This is fine. It will totally work." I reassured her. Instead, she mumbled something along the lines of me not having a subconscious- or a good one, anyway- before she was pushed out of the way by clone two.
Ana (because I'm extremely clever with names) bubbled with energy. "Don't you listen to her, Diana! You have got this. Nothing should get in the way of your quest. Besides, you've worked on this for so long, there's no way you can fail. World domination will be yours! So technically it will be ours!" Her arms were raised in world-domination pose, and her feet hovered above the floor. Ana was probably slightly evil, and her smoky appearance only boosted that lingering feeling anyone who saw her would have over her kindness. Of course, no one should see her, if things go according to plan.
"Are you serious?" Spat Di. "We aren't bent on taking over the world! That is not our plan!"
"Maybe it should be! It's a lot more fun this way!" Growled Ana in retort.
"No way are we doing that! You need sense slapped into you!"
"Nu-uh! You need sense slapped into you!"
"How dare you! I never-"
"Enough!" I yelled at both of them. "All we are doing today is trying to overtake the royalty. I want to become the new ruler of Imperatrice. I deserve it more than those now on the throne. They are nothing but killers who don't value the lives of their people. They d-"
The two clones raised their hands like I had given them a pop quiz and they needed some extra help.
"What's Imperatrice?" Ana questioned.
I slapped my forehead. I'm so dumb sometimes.
"We live in the kingdom of Imperatrice, idiot." I flipped my hair back in annoyance, trying not to throw something at Ana.
"Okay, while I am smarter than some," Di took this moment to give Ana a quick glare, "why exactly do we hate the rulers that we have? They can't be all as bad as you say. Queen Ateri has always been the kindest woman of all time. She's always doing charity work. Not to mention, the next heir jumped in front of a bullet to save his best friend."
"Also, he's really hot." Said Ana.
I fell over gagging. "Ew. Ew. I can't believe a clone of mine would say that. Ew. Ew. Grrooosss. Prince Brice may be decent to everyone else, but it doesn't matter. He is his father in some ways, and I can't ignore that."
His father...
King Rubrum.
Granted, he's not dead or anything.
