Chapter Seven
Herman, Pranks and Benjamin

If I was going to takeover the kingdom with the help of a creature named Herman, I was definitely going to have a little bit of fun first. Even world domination requires a little bit of excitement.

Attempting to walk Herman back home was the most unusual thing. I didn't know whether I would need a leash or not for him. Where do I walk? Does he lead? Do I lead? Do I stand to the left? (Standing to the right is not an option. It just is not my good side. I refuse.)

It also couldn't necessarily be considered a "walk".  Herman's wings flapped so quickly I could barely register it.

I'll admit; I was half tempted to strap a saddle onto Herman and ride him like a pony. However, I didn't believe we were at that stage in our relationship.

I looked over to my left at Herman. "By the way, how do you understand English?"

He shrugged.

"Can all animals interpret human languages? Wait, never mind. I already know the answer to that. I used to have a pet owl. Her name was Benjamin. Anyway, as sweet as she was, Benj had no understanding of anything that we said to her. I tried so hard to teach her tricks! Never worked." I laughed. "Can all of your species get our speech?"

He paused sadly.

He was just like me, wasn't he?

"You're not alone anymore," I blurted before I had a chance to think. Herman peered at me curiously, but he didn't attack me. I figured this was his own way of saying that was good with him.

I decided I wanted to be petty now and not deal with real emotion.

A smirk consumed my face. I could finally get Di and Ana back for their bet on me. "Herman," I began cautiously, "Do you want to prank my roommates?"

His softer eyes vanished as he gave me a devilish smirk good enough to oppose my own.

That would make my overthrowing of the rulers just a tad bit better. Herman would be the perfect companion through it all.

It didn't take long to reach my forest house.

"Hey clones!" I yelled as I approached my home. "Diana is back!"

The two floated over. Di opened the door while Ana jumped out the upstairs window like a maniac. I was nowhere to be seen- hidden in the taller trees above. The only sight visible to my wispy clones was a monstrous creature that could be considered a horror thing if Herman's attitude was different.

Needless to say, there was a lot of stifled laughter on my part and Herman's. On the other hand, Ana and Di were screaming.

Just a little.
