Chapter 13: I'm Sorry

I felt my throat go dry as they began to circle me in. I tried to find a way to escape and run, but they were all so packed together it was nearly impossible to find an exit.

“Awh, is little Amanda scared?” JJ laughed wickedly.

“Scared of you? Never.” I shot back almost immediately and by the way her face fell, I knew that’s not the answer she would’ve liked.

“Listen here,” she yelled and got close to me, “you’re nothing but a new girl. A regular! You shouldn’t be here, Calum shouldn’t have fallen for you.” She spat. Her voice had so much venom in it, and that’s when I truly realized just how much she truly hates me. JJ was a lot taller than me, so the way she towered over me was very intimidating.

“But he did. He did fall for me and that’s something you can’t change.” An angry growl escaped her lips and suddenly I was being pulled down to the ground by my hair. She climbed on top of me and held me by the collar of my shirt.

“But he shouldn’t have!”

“Why do you care about what Calum does anyway?!” I yelled, confused. They hated each other. JJ’s eyes soften for a split second and then hardened again.

“Don’t worry about it!” She yelled and almost as quickly as she came, she left with all her gang.

“I’m not safe anywhere!” I groaned in frustration before heading to my car. I began driving to a small ice cream parlor to see if I could relax just a bit. I got in and ordered my ice cream, and sat down at the back of the small room.

I ate in silence, occasionally scrolling through my phone and hoping no more chaos will happen. I’m so tired of having to worry if JJ is going to attack me, or if any other creature is going to harm me. The fact that I told Calum that I didn’t need his help makes me feel super bad. If it weren’t for him, I don’t know how I’d still be here. I pushed him away and all he truly wanted was to help.

My ice cream was cut short when a young man sat across from me. He gave me a smile and I have to admit he’s attractive.

“Hello, why are you so lonely, dear?”

“I just wanted some time to myself.” I replied honestly. This guy sounded nice, so I might as well be nice back.

“How come?”

I wondered if I should reply, and decided against it. I simply shrugged and put a spoonful of ice cream in my mouth.

“Well, how bout I buy you a smoothie? A smoothie is my comfort food.” I smiled at him, but shook my head no.

“Thank you, but I really should be getting back home.” I stood up, said my final goodbye to the him, and left.

As I entered my drive way, I saw Calum sitting at the step at the front of my door. I didn’t have to say anything for him to open his arms and give me a hug as soon as I got out the car. There I stayed in his embrace for a few minutes before mumbling a small “I’m sorry.”
