Chapter Fourteen:
"Oh good. You're already up. I was wondering if I would have to wake you." Kevin said, plopping down next to me.
Here we were, at 7'o'clock in the morning, eating breakfast in our overpriced boarding school's dining hall. Ah...life at it's best.
"Nah. I'm an early bird. I just take frequent power naps in the middle of the day." I responded to his non-question.
"Ha. What naps? You must be talking about when you act like you're asleep in the middle of class to piss the teachers off. Naps my ass." he said, laughing to himself.
"Well, alrighty then. It seems like you've got me all figured out. What else can you tell me about myself, mighty Kevin?"
"Quite a lot. For example, your eyes shift towards the left when you're lying or you feel uncomfortable. You smile when anyone cracks a joke in class, but wipe it off before anyone else can see. When you text in class, you place your phone on your left leg, and hide it underneath the black sweatshirt you always carry around. You buy drugs for off-campus, and sneak them in by stuffing the packets in your bra. You like to party a lot, but for some reason you end up feeling annoyed and retire early. And lastly, your idol and inspiration is Avril Lavigne, but you don't know that you're far prettier and a lot more perfect than she could ever dream to be. So yes, I kind of do have you figured out." he said matter-of-factly, shifting closer to me and leaning forward.
We were so close now, it probably looked like we were kissing if anyone looked.
I could feel his breath on my cheek, I could hear the air conditioning blow through his dark brown hair, and most of all, I could see.
I could see the light brown flecks in his green eyes, I could see the natural golden hairs scattered around his gelled hair, and I could see the outline of a faded scar, right under his jawline.
He met my gaze, looking at me so intensely, I felt like he was looking right in to my soul.
"Well, someone's been stalking me." I remarked, coughing awkwardly and moving away.
"I suppose you're talking about the pictures of you in my room, yeah?" he joked.
"Definitely. What time do we have to leave?" I asked, absent mindedly spreading peanut butter on my low-fat, 100% grain, brown toast.
"Around 7:30. So you have about twenty minutes." he responded, eyeing my coffee suspiciously.
"Cool." I muttered, chugging down the steaming liquid.
"Aaaaaah..." I breathed, making that irritating and vulgar noise that everyone loves to make, but hates to hear.
We sat in an uncomfortable silence for a few minutes.
"What do you think about maybe tak--- Are you okay?" I questioned, feeling his hand latch on to my wrist like there was no tomorrow.
"Uh...yeah. Completely. I---I have to go. Yeah. No. Bye." he stuttered, abruptly getting up and stumbling. His face paled, and he practically ran out of the dining hall.
"Just when I start trusting the guy, he goes and starts acting mysterious." I sigh to myself, reaching over to take his untouched hash browns.
More food for me...
