Chapter Eighteen:

"Hey, why ar---oh wait, never mind." I said, sounding oh-so intelligent.

"Yeah, because I totally just understood what you said." Alexis replied, rolling her eyes. I heard a quick tap-tap-tap as she texted someone on her old ass Blackberry. Seriously dude, upgrade.

"That's why I said never mind." I retorted, using my la-duh voice.

"Yeah, but I do mind. So tell me."

"Oh, stop acting like a fourteen-year old brat. Oh wait, you are one." I choked out, exploding with laughter.

"It's not funny." she stated, glaring at me.

"Hell yeah it is! You act so old and mature, I always seem to forget that you and Tasia are only fourteen. Jesus, you guys crack me up!" I guffawed, falling off the sofa and affectionately making out with the floor.

"Blasphemy!" she yelled. I lifted my head off the ground, and looked up at her.

"I'm an atheist." I told her, attempting to act offended or indignant.

"Oh, shit, I'm sorry. I don't even know why I just assum--"

I fell down again, shaking and wheezing with silent laughter.

"Hey! It's really not funny!"

"Oh, gosh, yes it is. You're so gullible! I haven't laughed this much for seven months!"

"Yeah, well, you have a crappy sense of humour."

"I guess I'm just like life. It's not crappy; it's twisted." I replied, suddenly losing my giddiness.  I gave her a weak smile.

"You did that just to distract me, didn't you? God, you're unbelievable. What were you gonna ask?!" she questioned angrily, slumping on the sofa.

"Seriously, it's nothing. I was just going to ask why you and Tasia don't go to BBS."

"You don't know? It's only Grade Ten and up. We're going next year."

"Oh....I don't really pay attention, I guess."

"Yeah, well, that's pretty obvious." she said, smiling. But she said it in such a different way, it felt scathing.

"Why'd you say it like that?" I asked, feeling a bit hurt. I considered her a pretty good friend. I hadn't talked to someone so easily for such a long time.

Man up, Veronica. You've been betrayed way too many times to be hurt over this little scornful remark. I mean, come on, girl. There's a reason you stay away from civilization.

"I'm sorry," she sighed, "It's just that I feel like you're never actually here. I mean, you'll talk to me about shit, but you won't open up about anything. Especially about Canada and stuff. Not even about why you don't talk to anyone at BBS. I mean, I'm not asking you to tell me your deep, dark secrets, but I just want your mind to be present when we communicate."

"Woah, bro. That was deep. And I'm soz. It's just been a while since I've talked to a friend."

"You consider me a friend?" she asked, perking up.

"Uhh...yeah."

"Cool. I'm friends with... a sixteen year old." she said aloud, more to herself than me.

"And I am friends with a major dork." I teased, sniggering. "And what are you talking about anyways? I first met you at a nightclub in Boston city! I'm sure you've hooked up with college guys, and possibly older ones." I said, winking at her.

"Oh, yeah. The older ones are wayyyyy more talented."

"Yeah, they are. But the juniors and seniors are hotter, and a lot easier to catch." Tasia argued, butting into the conversation like no one's business.

That doesn't even make sense, dumbass.

"What about you, Ron? Who's the last guy you hooked up with?" Alexis asked. They both swiveled their heads to stare at me expectantly.

"Ummm...actually, I'm still virgin." I admitted, looking down shyly.

"No way! You're lying!" They chorused, exactly and creepily in sync.

I guess they do fit the twin stereotype...

"Yeah, I am. And I'm proud. I like being virgin. It makes me feel...different. And it's a definite contradiction to my appearance and attitude." I pronounced, popping my lips awkwardly.

"Well, you're right about that! I did NOT expect that." Tasia announced.

"But when was the last time you properly made out with someone. Like, intimately." Alexis inquired.

"Ahem....well, this conversation is getting too personal for my liking. I'm just gonna...go." I whispered, getting up to leave.

"No way, ho zay. You are going to tell us ALL about your non-existent sex life." Tasia demanded, following me.

I broke into a run, planning to escape their clutches by running into the bathroom and locking the door until Tamara, Kevin, or Tatum saved me.

"No! Come back here, missy." Alexis yelled, as she pursued me.

Just a few more steps and I'll be free.

I would have made it, if only some random dude hadn't popped up from the middle of nowhere, and made me ram right into him.

Aww...you suck dude. I hope your balls fall off.

And as soon as I completed that vulgar thought, I passed out and travelled once again to the darkness.

Screw me and my incredibly vulnerable mind and body...
