Chapter Ten:
"Oh. Oh. Kevin. Oh. Okay." I said weirdly, slumping back on the bed. I mean, he wasn't that bad, and I'm pretty sure he would keep this a secret if I asked, but still. It would've been better if they were complete strangers.
"Ha. And Kevin said she would freak out and run off. See, I knew she wouldn't. She can't hate someone that much." Alexis said to her solemn twin, Tasia.
He thought I would run off? Ha. I would probably do that if I wasn't so damn hungover. Ugh. Here comes the extra intense head pain to remind me what a screw-up I am.
"Ha ha. 'She' is in the room, and does not appreciate your tone. And 'she' is also very hungry and would greatly appreciate some breakfast." I said, smiling as my stomach let out a grumble.
"Okay. Ummm...come on downstairs. I think mom made pancakes." Tasia said, abruptly opening the door and leaving.
Alexis followed her, and I slowly trotted behind her. We finally reached the kitchen, and I shyly stood in the corner, uncertain of what to do.
A beautiful middle aged woman stood in front of the stove, hastily flipping mounds of batter. She was tall and slim, with long blonde hair and deep black eyes. She clearly defied the concept of plump housewives.
Suddenly, she spun around and grabbed me in a bone-crushing hug, rubbing my back affectionately.
"There you are! We were waiting for you to wake up. Oh, I am SO sorry about my crazy little daughters. But I am glad they brought you home after knocking you out. I swear, they're not that bad. They were probably just extremely drunk. I don't even know why, as they aren't even legal yet. They're only fourteen. Oh, I really am sorry. Please don't press charges, we can't afford going to the court. I am SO sorry. My retarded girls are actually very nice. I really am sorry about their unacceptable behavior." she rambled, quite loudly if you ask me.
"Oh, it's okay. I've gotten hit a lot in my life, it doesn't make a difference. And I definitely won't press charges, don't worry. It's too much work!" I said, trying to lighten the situation. She let out a chuckle, letting go of me but still clutching my shoulders.
"Oh yeah. She gets into loads of fights, don't you, Veronica? She's quite the rebel, Tamara." A male voice said. It was Kevin, obviously. He was quietly sitting on a stool by the counter, which is why I hadn't noticed him.
I sniffed and turned away, trying to act arrogant. Just because his sister knocked me out, and he was taking me back to school, doesn't mean I have to talk or be nice to him. Right? Yeah.
"Eat up, Veronica, you have a long journey ahead. And try to eat quickly, you're leaving in twenty minutes, and you probably want to take a shower." Mrs.Schwolt said, smiling courteously.
"Oh, call me Ron. And everything smells amazing, so I'll probably be done in five, Mrs.Schwolt!" I said, laughing. I hadn't had a home cooked meal in forever.
"It's Tamara. And thank you, you look like you could use a good and healthy meal. Stupid boarding school food probably isn't filling." she said, practically screaming. She seemed to be a very loud woman.
"Wait...what? What do you mean a very long drive? Aren't we close by?" I asked, confusedly.
"Oh, no, honey. We're in Pennsylvania. You guys are getting back by bus." she explained.
I choked on my spit and yelled out, "We're in a different state?!" dramatically.
"I told you not to tell her." Kevin said, watching me intensely.
"Oh, shut up. She would find out eventually." Tamara said, frowning a bit. "Well, I'm off to my room. Kevin, make sure she's comfortable, find her some clothes, and look after her 'til you guys leave. Bye. It was nice meeting you!" she said, kissing my cheek when she was finished. Then she walked out of the house.
"I swear, this woman could be a rapper." Kevin said, smiling at me. I looked away uncomfortably and put some more food in my mouth.
"You're still not going to talk to me?" he asked, looking at me curiously. I rolled my eyes and ignored him.
Suddenly, he farted very loudly. I pursed my lips to hold in my laughter. What the hell?!
"Well, this is awkward." he said, smiling goofily. He farted on purpose, so that I would laugh. So I rolled my eyes, and walked off with a huff.
Maybe he would stop being so nice if I was rude enough...
