Connor shut his eyes tight, leaning against the trunk of a tree in the middle of the abandoned orchard. He was ready. After every time he wimped out, he knew that this time would be it.

He just felt it. He wasn't scared, he wasn't sad, he was surprisingly peaceful. He knew it wouldn't last, but at the moment, everything felt fine. The world had put him through enough, what were a few pills?

He opened his eyes looking around at a place that was linked to so many of his favorite childhood memories. He closed his eyes once more, a nostalgic feeling surfacing.

"Connor! Connor, come look!"

He slowly blinked his eyes open to see Zoe at age 7, running and laughing.

"Wait up!"

He turned to see himself from nine years ago chasing after her. They were smiling and playing, just being kids. Connor's eyes welled up with tears. He missed Zoe. Of course, they lived together, but he missed the old Zoe. The Zoe that fully trusted and loved her brother. The Zoe that cared when someone had said something mean to Connor. The kind, loving Zoe that adored her big brother so much, the one that was still deep down inside of her, covered up by emotional walls slowly built as the siblings fell out. But he knew he could never go back. He still wanted to, though.

He felt his cheeks moistening. He was crying. Surprised, he touched his face. He hadn't felt this sensation in so long. He hadn't cried in years. Sure, he had gotten close before, but he had never let tears fall. He wanted to become numb. Numb from all the pain.He dug his face into his hoodie, sobs muffled by the thick, dark fabric. All he could hear was his sped-up heartbeat, the pounding sound filling up his mind and conscience. He was breaking down into a small child who just wanted someone to comfort him.

But nobody came.

Because nobody cares and no one ever will.

Hand shaking, he poured out a small handful of pills into his palm.

Slowly lifting his hand, he held back tears. He was ready to do it.

However, the moment Connor's hand reached his face, a loud thump sounded. Connor jumped in shock, dropping the pills as he got up to see what it was.

There lied Evan Hansen.
