“I’m here to see Joseph Tanner.” My voice echoed around the empty hospital reception area. The woman behind the desk glanced up slowly, before sighing and typing the name into her computer.
“Name?” She drawled, not looking away from the screen.
“Jessica, apparently he’s been-“
“Asking for you, yes.” I narrowed my eyes at the woman, I already didn’t like her. “Room 309.” I didn’t hesitate to leave her behind, counting the doors as I went.

Something shattered in my chest when I saw him. He had a hospital gown on, and his face was pale. Joseph’s normally warm eyes looked dead, and hard. There was no joy left inside of him, as it appeared.
I took hold of my emotions, before walking into the room. “Look at you!” I strode into the room, stopping at the end of his bed. Joseph’s head snapped up, his eyes wide. “Someone finally got past your guard, eh?” I was smirking and my tone was cocky, but it was all forced.
No doubt it would’ve annoyed him if I just marched in and started fretting for him. What he needed now, was for someone happy to be close to him. I guess I’ll have to do.
“J-Jess?” josephs squeaked, continuing to stare. It was almost as if he couldn’t believe I was standing in front of him, like I’d disappear any second. “Y-You’re actually here!” Slowly, a grin spread across his face. I scoffed at him, crossing my arms.
“Well, I was forced. It’s hard to fight back when India has you by the hair.” Of course, Joseph knew I was lying. But, that’s what made him laugh.
“I bet it is.” He lowered his eyes, and suspicion welling in me. “By the way, I’m sorry for what I said… Before I stormed off…” My heart ached as I remembered.
“Don’t worry about it!” I ignored my feelings, continuing my I-don’t-feel-no-damn-sadness façade, “But,” I stared at him. “I wanna know who did this to you.”
Joseph didn’t answer for a moment, before he mumbled something so soft I barely heard him. “Alex…”
“Who?” Joseph glanced up, uncertain.
“My brother, Alex, shot me.”
I felt the world tip, and I grabbed my head. Flashes erupted from behind my eyelids, and I could barely make out a soft ‘She’s with the boy’. Soon, I noticed the flashes were sorta like an old movie, showing me black and white stills of what was going on. I knew I was looking out from someone’s eyes, but I didn’t know who.

The voice was raspy, and the pictures were blinding me, although, I could control what I was seeing. I turned my head, and I saw a silhouette. The flashes made me wince, so I couldn’t see the figure properly.
“So it finally worked.” The sillouette murmured, and before I could regognise the voice, it all went black.

“Uhm. Are you ok?” I collapsed into the chair next to his bed, panting slightly. I shook my head, snapping myself out of my daze, before turning and grinning at Joseph. While doing so, I wiped my sweaty palms onto my pants descreatly. I didn’t want to make him even more stressed than he already was.
“Yea! I’m fine, why?” Joseph continued staring for a few moments, before seeming to accept my answer. “So,” I continued, trying to stay on topic, “Your… Brother… shot you?” My grin dropped and I stared at him, confused.
