It was a stormy night and the lights were out. I stumbled through the hall into the living room. My parents are gone and my little brother was at his friend's house. I was home by myself and if I'm being honest I am a little scared. I texted Harley to see if she could come get me. "I can't my mom has the car tonight" The text read. My phone shut off as soon as I replied telling her it was okay. I sat down on the couch after stumping my toe on the coffee table. I hear a knock at the door and I jumped. I felt my way to the door and opened it. It was Adam. He lives down the street from me. "I came to check on you. I saw that your parents weren't home" He said. I motioned him inside as I thanked him. He was soaked from the rain. "Do you have any flashlights?" He asked. "I'm not really sure, if we did they would be in the closet in the hall" I replied. He heads toward the hallway feeling the wall as he walks. I sit back down on the couch. Looks like he found the flashlight. He walks back down the hall and about that time the lights came back on. "Well that didn't last long" He said. I smiled and agreed. I run over to my phone and plug it in. "I'm going to call my parents when my phone charges" I told him. "Alright, I guess I'll be going then" He said. I told him I would text him later as I shut the door behind him. I walked over to my phone and called my parents. Neither one of them answered their phone. I get a text from Cayden asking if I'm okay. "Yes, I'm okay. Are y'all okay over there?" I sent back. I hear a noise in the kitchen like someone was digging into a bag. I walked into the kitchen only to find our pet cat Oreo. She was playing with the empty bags laying on the floor. I smiled and walked back into the living room. My phone lights up and a text from Cayden had me in a panic. "Haven't you seen the news??"  It read. I quickly turned on the tv and turned it to the news. And there it was, the very thing that ruined me and broke me. Both of my parents died in a car accident. At that moment I heard a knock at the door. I went over and opened the door. Cayden was standing there studying me as if he was trying to figure out if I saw it or not. I grabbed him and broke down.
