Chapter Four

  I wake up in a hospital bed. All my friends are surrounding me. Adam notices that I'm awake. "Guys she's awake! How are you feeling Raelynn?" He asks. I start crying and press the nurse button. I don't want to talk to anyone. I want them to leave. The nurse comes in and sees that I am upset. "Alright, Y'all need to leave the room. Give her some space please" She tells them. They all step outside. The nurse asked if I was okay. I will never be okay. "No. I don't want to talk to anyone. I don't even want to talk to you but I have to" I say as I cry. "What is wrong with me?" I ask in tears. She reaches out her hand to touch my back. I move out of the way. "I don't want people touching me either" I say. She tells me it's understandable considering what I went through. "Can you just tell my friends to leave" I tell her. She nods her head and walks outside. I can hear her telling them to go home. I can also hear Cayden telling her he's not leaving my side. Harley walks in. "I know you want us to leave. But girl I'm your best friend. There's no way in hell I'm leaving you" She says. She gives me a hug. I didn't pull away. I smiled and thanked her. I explained what was going on. "It's okay Rae they will understand" She replies. Cayden won't though. A few minutes later Cayden walks in. "Cayden she doesn't want to see anyone. Get out" Harley yells at him. "Why do you get to stay and talk with her?" He asks. She tells him it was because she is my best friend. He storms back outside. I tell Harley that I want to see them but I don't want to talk to them. She goes outside and tells Derrek to come in. "Harley says you didn't want to talk. That's okay, so just listen. You're one of my best friends Raelynn. You were the first person I told when I was kicked out of my parents house. We're close friends Raelynn. And I'm always here for you" He sits down on the bed beside me. I put my hand on his and smiled. "Okay I think Adam wants to come in now" He says as he gets up. I nod my head. As Adam walks in I see that his eyes are red like he'd been crying. "I know you're probably wanting to ask me why I was crying or why I am crying. I still care about you Raelynn. No matter what and seeing you hurt, hurts me. I worry about you" He says. "I know you will be okay. You're strong" He adds as he kisses me on my forehead. "How can you be so sure Adam?" I ask. "I dated you for 3 years Raelynn. I know everything about you" He says with a smile. "Stop worrying about me" I tell him. "I can't do that" He answers. I ask him why not and the words that came out frustrated me. "I still love you" He says. Without giving me a chance to say something he walks out the door. I still care about him but I don't love him like I use to. Cayden walks into the room. He walks over to the bed and sits down. He shakes his head and then puts his head in his hands. What is he doing? "You scared me today. I thought I was going to lose you" He says. "I know I can be a jerk sometimes and I know I haven't really shown it but I care a lot about you. I really like you. I've had a crush on you since freshman year" He adds. My heart starts pounding hard at those words. I immediately grab him and kiss him. "You have no idea how long I've wanted to hear that" I tell him. He smiles and kisses me again.
