Almost all of his life, he has known the feeling of betrayal and loneliness. His past, particularly his family history, is not something he likes to think about, but sometimes they are not thoughts that can be avoided. During these times, he wishes that he could cast a memory loss spell upon himself, but that's impossible.

He's tried.

The recent events have caused these memories to swell frequently in his mind as of late. Despite how hard he tries, he can't push away the thoughts of his family. Their faces haunt him even now, though, he hasn't seen any of them in centuries.

The first face to always come to mind is the one of his father. His face has a voice as well. A voice that constantly degraded him. He had a voice that was so full of blame and hatred that it twisted and bent his soul. It's the voice that forced him to the darkness, a darkness that he has only had brief reprieves of since, and recently, one of those reprieves that was meant to be his was taken away from him. His father has long since been dead, but the scars he's left on him are permenant.

It's led him to where he is now: sitting at his desk desperately trying to regain his composure. He is a man that hasn't shed a tear since he was burnt as a child, but now here he is. He is fighting off tears as he tries to balance his life out again.

Then the second face comes to his mind, and it doesn't help him. It's the face of his older brother, whom he hasn't seen since he ran away at the young age of 15. It's the brother who added to his father's torment. He also blamed him for something that he had no control over. He couldn't help that his mother died while birthing him, but his father and brother sure thought so. Even now, he doesn't know what happened to his brother. He does, however, know that his brother is most likely out there somewhere because he was special, too.

He was also a sorcerer, but his soul was always dark without needing to be twisted.

His father and brother both caused him so much pain, but that pain does not compare to the pain to that the last face of his family brings with her.

His beloved sister. She is the hardest to avoid because her name is one that has garnered fame over the centuries, but before she became a heroine to all, she was his heroine. She never blamed him for what he couldn't control. When he ran away from his father and brother, she came with him. She was his only real family. She was special, too, but in a way much different from he and his brother. Despite their obvious difference, they lived in this manor together for a few years with her love for music filling these often silent halls. He tried to be everything he wasn't for her, trying to brighten away the darkness that always was close to consuming him. She had this calming effect on him, but when that fell through, he found himself giving into the darkness in a moment of weakness. He never wanted to, but it became too much for him. He gave into the dark power as an escape from all of his pain. His irises turned black, reflecting the monster he had become on the inside.

And then she tried to kill him.

Only, she couldn't do it because she knew her beloved, misunderstood brother was merely lost in the darkness, so she left him forever instead. She swore to him that if she ever saw him again, she would not be so merciful. So he stayed away. When she left, he only felt himself lose more control and fall deeper into the darkness instead. Though he wanted to see his sister, he stayed away just as she wanted until she was old, wrinkled, and already in the deep slumber she would never wake from.

She was not cursed with immortality like he was. When he saw her for the last time, he felt the last glint of light within him dissipate. He became an uncaring monster who only yearned for power like other sorcerers and sorceresses who gave into the dark magics.

That is, until he met a girl who was reminiscent of his long lost sister. She had a strange soothing effect on him that he couldn't understand, but it was there. He felt himself being lulled out of the dark when around her. For the first time, he felt parts of his true self emerging again. He longed for this feeling because suddenly he didn't feel so... alone and trapped.

She was supposed to be his, too, but then she was taken away.

He needs that light. He can't be taken completely back into the darkness. He doesn't like being cruel, but it's something he can't control. He wants control back.

He needs her back.

So I decided to add a prologue onto this story and BTF. A little out of order I know, but I think they are fun, mysterious little beginnings that also give some interesting background XD
