The Pearl

Time does not heal
it sediments;
encasing hurts in calcium carbonate.

Soft parts may dissolve
but skeletal shards
       wait
to be unearthed.

Time
is an self-effacing beautician.
She strokes on lacquer of nitrocellulosed pearl
coat upon
         coat
till nicotine-fouled keratin
seems
immaculate and
ghoul-green talons      withdraw.

Time does not

heal
it deposits;
compacting weighty memories
squeezing     waterlogged    sores.
