Normani's POV
My heart hurts, it really does. I don't think any of us saw this coming. Things were going so great and then life through an ugly curveball our way. I know that everyone's time is limited and we're all gonna leave this earth one day I just didn't think someone I'd gotten so close to would be leaving us so soon.
I'm having a hard time imagining life without Skillet.
The precious golden retriever that I wasn't a fan of at first, then stole my heart has went to doggy heaven. A few days ago we noticed that Skillet wasn't acting like his normal upbeat self. So Y/N and I took him to the vet, the vet ran all kinds of tests on him but they didn't find anything wrong with him. Skillet was perfectly healthy, the doctor said it was old age and the end was near. The only thing we could do was make Skillet comfortable.
At first Skillet was kind of lazy but when we took him to the lake his energy completely changed. He was running around, playing fetch with Y/N, just having a good time. Then he got lazy again, we figured the end was near so we just let Skillet do his own thing. There was a brief moment of happiness though, somehow some way Timmy got in contact with Nolan and he came home to be with his dog.
Nolan and Y/N squashed the beef between them and focused their attention on Skillet. They camped out in their yard and kept Skillet company, but when they woke up in the morning, Skillet was gone. As painful as this is I find comfort in knowing Skillet is in a better place now. Also, I'm glad he got to see his two favorite people come back together before he left us.
Since Skillet was such a big part of our lives we decided it was best to have a little funeral for him. Y/N and Nolan built a little casket and carried it into the woods where the treehouse and little pound was. That was one of Skillet's hiding spots.
"Anybody have anything they wanna say before we bury him." Nolan said.
Noelle kneeled down beside the casket and rubbed his head, "I'm really gonna miss you chasing down the street for no reason Skillet. Actually you did have a reason, Nolan made you do it. But anytime I saw you it brighten up my day and I'm really gonna miss that about you."
Noelle stood beside me and laid her head on my shoulder. Timmy placed a chew toy in the casket and smiled, he tried to speak but he got so choked up he couldn't do he just stood back up. Choie was an emotional mess too.
Nolan kneeled beside the casket and rubbed Skillet's belly. He let out a sigh and shook his head, "I found you when I was a little kid Skillet. You were a stray, as soon as I saw you I knew I wanted you as a pet. Mama was against it but after a lot of begging and finessing she agreed to let you stay and I'm glad she did. Whenever I needed you, you were there, not once did you leave me."
I cut my eye at Mr. Y/L/N because I knew that shade was thrown toward him.
"I'm gonna miss you Skillet. Thank you for being my bestest friend in the whole wide world." Nolan said.
Y/N took his place beside Nolan and put Skillet's favorite chew toy in the box. Out of everyone here Y/N and Nolan are suffering the most from this. I just hope Y/N doesn't shut down after it's all over.
"The first person I wrote a song about was you. You were my muse, bodyguard, my riding partner, and my best friend. They say that a dog is a man's best friend and you were living proof of that. I don't think I'm ever gonna want another dog again. I just can't imagine anyone taking your place man. I hope that you're up there running around with all of your new doggy friends having a good time and most of all I hope you're happy. I love you Skillet." Y/N said.
"Rest easy Skillet." I said.
"Anybody else got anything to say?" Nolan asked.
Everyone else shook their heads and Nolan closed the casket. Nolan and Y/N carefully placed the casket in the ground. They put the dirt over it and that was it.
