today's the day! the day i get on a plane and head to the beautiful country of jamaica for two straight months. it feels so surreal that i'm going and if i'm honest i woke up two days ago doubting if i should even go. i convinced myself, it was quite easy actually, to go and now here i am standing in my kitchen playing with a kiwi while i wait for my cab to take me to the airport.

i hear a honk come from outside and i quickly head to the door and grab my luggage. one giant suitcase, an overnight bag for my carry-on and my purse. i open the door and step out towards the cab. the taxi driver steps out of his car and helps me pack my things into the trunk. i thank him, get in, buckle up, and then we're off to the airport. if it wasn't for the seatbelt holding me down i would have been jumping out of my seat.

the airport has to be one of my favorite places. everyone has a place to go, always travelling. the best part is that everybody has their own story. some are going away on business, some are moving, some are going on vacation like me, and some are trying to leave things behind by running away from them.

as i'm busy in my thoughts i realise the car has stopped and the driver is helping me with my things once again. i situate everything so it's easy to walk with and i head to the bag check and check my biggest piece of luggage. after i'm done with that i head over to the kiosk to check in and get my ticket and boarding pass and then head to security. i get through pretty quick and right as i'm about to sit down my nose catches on to the most wonderful smell. pretzels. i find where the pretzel stand is, get what my heart desires, and head back to my gate and sit down.

my flight number is called and i gather my things and i board. i got a first class ticket because if i'm splurging on this trip i might as well go all out on everything. i sit in my seat and wait, rather impatiently, for the plane to take off. once we're in the air i unbuckle and grab my headphones and plug them into the little tv placed in front of me. i settle on watching finding nemo because why not?

i guess i end up falling asleep because the next thing i know i'm being woken up by a flight attendant asking if i want steak or chicken with my dinner. i check the flight path and there's only a couple more hours each left. i sigh in relief because as much as i love flying, i want to get to my destination so i can start my relaxing, even though i have plenty of time to do so.

after the plane lands and i'm let off i go to baggage claim to get my stuff. i feel like i'm sitting there forever just waiting for it to turn up but that's the usual. as i'm sitting down i start to people watch because i believe that's a much better way to waste time then on your phone. as i look around and make up different stories for the people around me to occupy myself, i see a familiar face but right as i do, my massive red suitcase catches my attention and i stand up and take it off the conveyer belt. i turn back around to look for that face i hadn't put a name to yet but i couldn't find it.

i step outside and the sun immediately hits my face and i can already feel the tan i'm going to get. i call a taxi and get on my way. the drive to the villa i had gotten wasn't too long and i was immensely grateful for that, me being a tired little potato and all. as we arrive i see my rental car had already been delivered and i get out of the cab, grabbing my things along with me. i take the key out of my purse and put it into the lock and turn it. the door opens and i walk in. the pictures on the website did not do this place justice. there, in the entryway, was a small vase of flowers, my car keys, and a simple note. i examined the flowers and smelled them as i read the note.

"welcome to jamaica! i hope you have a wonderful stay in our little villa. we're so excited to have you and we've attached a list of attractions, places, things to do, and stores you might want to visit while you're here. given the circumstances that you are here for a couple months we have provided some groceries for you so you can settle in quickly!

enjoy your stay!"

i look behind the note and see exactly what they said, a list. i look it over as i make my way into the kitchen, which was very pretty and i couldnt wait to use it even though i don't cook as much as i should. i open the refrigerator and see that the villa owners had stocked me up with milk, juice, fruit, eggs, cheeses, and much more. i was so very grateful because as soon as i got here i didn't want my first thing to do to be grocery shopping.

i find my way up the stairs and into the bedroom that will be mine for the next several weeks. there's a nice, big balcony and i open the doors and step out. i'm overwhelmed by the view laid out before me and i soak it all in letting the breeze sweep over me and brush my long brown hair onto my face. i look out at my surroundings and see there's a pool below me and some stairs that lead down to the beach. i also find that there's another villa right next to mine and our balconies are only several feet apart.

i come back inside but leave the doors open to let in the fresh air. i start to unpack my belongings and put things in their rightful places. after that, i change out of my denim mom shorts and my baggy jurassic park t shirt and into a midi sundress and some sandles. i decided to take a walk into town to grab something to eat and to see what i'm going to be living with for a while.

i step outside and lock the door behind me and put on my sunglasses. i walk down the alley that connects the two villas and i see a group of people unpacking a vehicle. let me rephrase people, i meant men. i look around at them and smile and they do the same to me. looks like they're on vacation too. one of them catches my attention as i recognise him as the guy i saw at the airport except i couldn't see his face, but with them living next to me i'm sure i'll figure out who he is in no time. just who could i be thinking of?

i walk around town a bit and i got a bite to eat. it was starting to get dark so i decided to take it to go and eat it out on my balcony since the weather was so lovely. once i was walking back towards the villas i noticed the lights on in the one neighboring to mine. they all seemed to be having a lively conversation and i felt a pang in my chest. i know i wanted to be alone on this trip but having a party or just a group of friends with me would be so much fun right now.

after i got inside i kicked off my sandals and headed to my room. i sat out on the balcony and ate my food, but after i was done i didn't move. i didn't want to move. i had no responsibilities, no deadlines that had to be met, i had nothing to do and i had to let myself get bored and be okay with that. mid deep thought i heard movement from the other side of me and i snapped my head over to look at the balcony next to mine. i wanted to get up due to the fact there was another human being somewhat next to me but i just gathered that it would draw more attention to me. i looked at the man and noticed him from today. i still couldn't see his face because it was dark outside. i just know i knew him from somewhere but until i see his face i have no clue where from.

i hear him let out a small sigh and grip the balcony railing in front of him. he seemed somewhat lost and i couldn't help the feeling in me that i knew what he was going through. i wanted to reach out to him and know him but i've never even met him before and that would be weird for a stranger to lean across a balcony and tell you everything will be okay.

i quickly and quietly get up, grab the remainder of my food and head inside. i changed into a t shirt and crawled into bed. i didn't even bother about showering because i was too lazy. even then i couldn't sleep because of the excitement rushing through my body. being in a new country the first night is like being a kid in a candy store. i quickly got out of bed and put some shorts on and headed downstairs. i opened the back door and rushed to the stairs that went down to the beach. i know this probably isn't the safest idea, being in a foreign country not knowing anyone or anything about what goes on at night, but i ignore those thoughts and just walk along the sand. my feet touch the cold, salty water and it soothes every bone in my body. i didn't really realise just how much i needed this break until now.

once i've walked the beach length back and forth, i go back up the villa stairs and rinse my feet off in the pool and dry them with a towel. once i'm back upstairs i got in the shower because after that walk i really needed it.

i let the cool water run down my skin as it cleaned every inch of my body. i washed my hair, got out, and dried off. i leave my hair wet as i get back into my t shirt and crawled into bed once again. this time, my head hit the pillow and i fell asleep instantly.
