Dan's POV

I watch in horror as Phil falls limply to the ground next to me.

"Phil!" Waverly- I think her name is- comes running in and kneels down next to Phil. "You bitches have 5 seconds to get the fuck out of here before I punch you into the next fucking solar system." She threatens, visibly shaking with rage. I'm sure I would be too if I wasn't knelt down on the floor, next to a knocked-out Phil, shaking with fear.

The boys mock Waverly, but still turn around and leave. I think she's known for being vicious and scarily strong when she's angry and I'm sure they probably wouldn't want to be there when a teacher finds out they knocked out a student.

Waverly turns to me now, the rage gone, now replaced with worry. She offers me a hand, which I hesitantly take.

"Are you ok?" She asks me as I stand up, body still trembling. I nod, looking into her bright blue eyes, quite similar to Phil's, as she flicks a curl of her pastel-pink-dipped black hair out of her face. She breaks the eye contact, looking at Phil again, so I do the same. "I'm going to go get help. You stay here and look after Phil, make sure he's ok if he wakes up before I get back." I nod again, slightly less scared. Her voice is soothing, making me calmer. She flashes me a smile before running off round the corner at full speed.

I crouch down next to Phil again, lifting up his head to see his injury. A bruise is starting to form on his right cheek, where he was hit, and the back of his head is bleeding slightly, causing a patch of his black hair turn a deep crimson.

That's when I notice Phil's eyes start to open.

"D-Dan?" Phil stutters, seeing me leaning over him. A bright smile forms on my lips. "What the hell happened?" He asks, as he attempts to sit up. I quickly take his arm and help him. "Why does my head hurt so much?" My smile drops as my mind goes over the event.

"Ch-Charlie, A-Alfie a-and Joe," I stutter, trying to find the right words. "Th-They were going t-to p-punch me b-but you s-stepped i-in and g-got punched i-instead. Y-You h-hit your h-head a-and it kn-knocked you o-out." Phil's face is one of anger as I finish speaking.

"I'm going to kill those three one day," He mutters, just loud enough for me to hear. My eyes widen with shock.

"Phil..." I trail off before I finish, because I realise that I feel the same as him. We slip into silence as Phil scowls at the ground, but quickly saved as Waverly appears round the corner with a teacher.

"Phil! You're awake!" Waverly's face lights up as she runs towards us. Phil gives Waverly a weak smile.

"What on Earth happened here?" The teacher - Miss Williams - asks us with concern.

Phil looks to me, I guess hoping for me to explain, but I just look to the ground timidly, any fleeting chance of me being able to speak now gone.

"Charlie, Alfie and Joe tried to punch Dan," I snap my head up as Waverly begins to talk, hoping she'll see my pleading look for her to stop talking, but she doesn't notice and carries on. "Phil tried to stop them, but he got punched in the process. I think he wacked his head on the concrete and it knocked him out."

"My word!" Miss Williams gasps. "Mr. Lester, do you remember any of this?" Phil looks to the sky, deep in thought, before shaking his head.

"The last thing I remember is coming round the corner and seeing Charlie, Alfie and Joe crowded around Dan, who was on the floor. The rest is a bit of a blur."

"Is this true Mr. Howell?" Miss Williams asks for my conformation. I still find it weird when she calls me by my last name. I have a bad reputation with that. "If it is, we can punish the three boys involved and prevent this from happening again."
